Plot intro

[edit]

The reason for a "Plot introduction" section is for the casual reader to get a taster of the plot without getting in to spoiler risk. If anything this intro needs some expansion to better represent the novel and give a better idea what it is about, without giving anything away of course. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 09:47, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:JustinSomper VampiratesDemonsOfTheOcean.jpg

[edit]

Image:JustinSomper VampiratesDemonsOfTheOcean.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:00, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Plot summary

[edit]

I removed a line which states that Connor saves Captain Wrathe from being murdered because it says a little bit before that that he saves himfrom being assasinated. I don't think such a similair event occured twice in the first novel, from what I remember, but I may be wrong. Also, I changed the naming so that Captain Wrathe is referred to as "Wrathe" and the Vampirate Captain as "the Captain", since before the two characters were both called "the Captain". I wasn't quite sure waht to do, please advise!--RainbowWerewolf (talk) 06:43, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Expanding the Article

[edit]

The place for a lot of this info should perhaps be a page all about the whole vampirates series (and perhaps all the book pages should be merged with that page) but for now here here is a webpage that contains links to lots of articles and interviews about vampirates that could be used to expand the article and used as references: http://www.mahalo.com/Vampirates_(Series). I'm gonna try to incorporate some of this information into the article as I have time, so please help sort through this stuff and see if you can find anything useful. --RainbowWerewolf (talk) 16:32, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Series page? Seperate book pages?

[edit]

Does anybody have any opinions as to whether or not there should be a separate article for the Vampirates series as a whole? I'm highly inclined to create one since it seems to be standard with other Wikipedia articles....Also, would we want to merge the book pages into such an article? Personally, I would keep them seperate since they're already established, and I think there are enough references and material to expand them all somewhat... So meanwhile, if i don't feel brave enough to start a whole new series page without some advice from you people out there, I'll just try to expand the individual articles, putting general series info on this page (the first book's page). --RainbowWerewolf (talk) 04:24, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

my take on this, having worked on numerous novels and novel series articles, is that these pages should be worked up and added to first! Particularly with reception, notability, reviews and other out of universe material. Also citations, references and other methods of verifiability. One the specific question of a series article it rather depends if there is anything much to say about the series as a whole that isn't being said in the individual novel articles. There is too much repetition on wikipedia already just to duplicate content. If there is material for an article by all means generate one later, avoiding duplication and interlinking them. Check out WP:NOVELS for guidance on content templates and style guidelines for novel articles. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 09:07, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment comment

[edit]

The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Vampirates: Demons of the Ocean/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

The standard of writing is really very poor. A lot of work needs doing to the plot summary, and there needs to be more in this article about the context of the book; when it was written/published, if it is part of a series and/or has characters from other novels by the author, how many novels the author has previously published and if they are in different fields. I don't know what rating I am supposed to use but it rates only 1/10 for me. LessHeard vanU 22:55, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
