Karpin got Russian passport due to his USSR citizenship, but did he got the Estonian passport in 2003 by descent of Russian minority arrived before 1940s, (Jus sanguinis) or by passing language and Constitution (naturalization), or he is ethnic Estonians? There's something seriously wrong cause if he took the Estonian citizenship then he had to give up the Russian one. You can't have two citizenships if Estonian is the one of them. Andry2109 (talk) 09:40, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Technically you can have a dual citizenship, but only if you are a citizen of Estonia by birth. Though the citizenship law of Estonia prohibits having double citizenship, it is impossible for authorities to take away Estonian citizenship acquired by birth (Constitution of Estonia does not allow it). So, having a double citizenship is a kind of "crime" for which there is no punishment, that's why many people break this rule (for additional information you can read this article in Russian: http://www.dzd.ee/698870/grazhdane-jestonii-po-rozhdeniju-spokojno-zhivut-s-dvojnym-grazhdanstvom/ )Dilas25 (talk) 22:05, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Karpin was born in Estonia, not in "Estonian SSR", no matter how much pro-Kremlin propagandists on Wikipedia are still trying to push this fundamentally sick old propaganda narrative. 178.197.216.152 (talk) 00:39, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
