Copyvios report on VCU School of the Arts

[edit]

Hello,

We believe that the VCU School of the Arts page was marked in error. If you examine the report, the bulk of the text that is claimed to be in violation is names of departments and common phrases. You may reach out to us directly at http://arts.vcu.edu/connect/

In order to attempt to resolve the issue, we've added a cc-by-sa notice to the footer in http://arts.vcu.edu/artfoundation/welcome/ We value the service that Wikipedia provides and we believe that resolving this issue as soon as possible will help potential students make a more informed decision.

Thanks,

Copyvios report on VCU School of the Arts

[edit]

Hello, I have created a new draft/version of the article here (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Talk:VCU_School_of_the_Arts/Temp). This is an entirely new version with new text, though it is a work in progress, I would like this to replace the article that was taken down.

Thanks,

  • Update (copyvio clerk here) I've had a look at the draft on Talk:VCU School of the Arts/Temp, and as of today's version, it no longer appears to be a copyright violation. See Copyvio Detector report. I'd like a second opinion from another clerk, Justlettersandnumbers, and then we can ask an administrator to replace the current page with the temp draft. Having said that, once it is moved to article space, it should be carefully checked/copyedited to remove unnecessary and frankly unilluminating reporting of what the institution says about itself, e.g. As the most prominent art school operating in the Commonwealth, VCUarts touts itself as an institute that fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and research across departments, along with a curriculum that focuses equally on arts conceptualization and physical practice. Ditto the box with the lengthy quote from Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser bin Abdullah Al-Misnad re the Qatar branch. As a side note, Ekhinzhar claimed above that a CC-by-SA notice had been added to the relevant VCU web pages. However, I see no evidence of that whatsoever, and in any case, being free to use does not make text suitable for an encyclopedia—we are not here to repeat the university's recruiting blurbs and prospectus. Thanks for this, Voceditenore. I agree with all you say – the rewrite is copyright-compliant (and I've asked for it to be moved into place); and it is far from being encyclopaedic in tone, and will need a lot of clean-up. On that front, it would probably be helpful if those editors who have a conflict of interest here would declare it, as is required. Ekhinzhar claimed to have altered the website of the school, so is presumably connected to it. Doopliss77, Mitzi.humphrey, do you also have some connection to the school? Yes, Justlettersandnumbers (talk), I have a BFA and MFA, two degrees in Painting and Printmaking from the VCU School of the Arts.--Mitzi.humphrey (talk) 12:11, 25 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Justlettersandnumbers. I am an alumnus of the school. I have a BFA in Art History. I did my best to write the article in as objective and "removed" tone as possible, but of course writing the article on a temporary talk page made collaboration difficult. Personally, there are many aspects that I would like to clean up (particularly in the references section), and I agree that the "unilluminating" text can be altered or removed. At the very least, I'm hoping that the article is suitable to be made public so that it can continue to be worked on by the community. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Doopliss77 (talkcontribs) 18:30, 25 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello again, Justlettersandnumbers. Has there been an update on the status of this article? Doopliss77 (talk) 14:49, 31 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
