Notability

[edit]

In what sense is this building notable for its own standalone article? Damage from an earthquake isn't sufficient to establish the topic requires its own article. Dora the Axe-plorer (explore) 06:09, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Seconded. Joeyquism (talk) 00:41, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Seems like this could just be rolled into the "impact" section of the article on the 2024 Hualien earthquake. Cortador (talk) 20:41, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I believe it's notable and will try to find references. It's been a while since I was involved with Wikipedia but I have to comment that I came to this page because of it's notability (I was searching for information on this building by name). This building has been the main front page picture used in news reports and on TV broadcasts regarding the earthquake that caused it's collapse and there is now also global interest in it's current demolition. cheesoid (talk) 09:32, 8 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Cheesoid will this article pass the test of time? Likely 10 years after, if this building is only notable for the earthquake and not for other, non-earthquake things, deletion nomination may occur. May also lean towards WP:RECENTISM. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 10:12, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Make it better

[edit]

Maybe to make this article becomes better and notable, we need to add more important information of this building:

  • Photo when the building was still standing.
  • Detailed story on the after-quake rescue process, demolition process and timeline.
  • Architectural details (detailed height, dimension, room numbers, companies involved in the construction, architect etc).
  • Technical explanation why the building becomes tilted and stay that way (instead of fall down completely after the quake), and comparison with other buildings around the world which became tilted only when earthquakes strike.

Tiānwángxīng building?

[edit]

Is there a consensus on the common name for this building? The actual name apparently is Tiānwángxīng or Tianwangxing building, instead of Uranus (despite Tiangwangxing meaning literally Uranus). Bedivere (talk) 18:50, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Well, regardless of whatever the official name is, it seems like a lot more sources translated it to "Uranus Building" instead. Google search brings up less than 10 results for "Tianwangxing building" versus 6 pages for Uranus building. As for the specific sources: Focus Taiwan AFP via The Straits Times The Japan Times Al Jazeera BBC The Guardian Sky News Australia CNN VOA The Independent and more that I didn't bother to link here.
