July 1944 damage described as worse in Silent Victory than current article text

[edit]

This is my first comment, so please excuse misunderstandings in how to make suggestions.

Silent Victory pg 677 (combined publication of volumes I and II, first edition) includes: ... Schoeni's boat, making a submerged attack, was rammed: the leading freighter in the center column hit Apogon on the starboard side, bending there periscopes and shears 45 degrees, tearing off the number-one periscope, and flooding the conning tower. ... Schoeni managed to hold everything together, and Apogon escaped to go to overhaul. Schoeni, congratulated for saving his boat, went to shore duty.

The current Wikipedia text does not mention the flooding of the conning tower or describe the damage in as serious terms as Silent Victory. I know that Silent Victory is somewhat outdated and the quality is variable, and many "facts" during wartime were exaggerations, but my first impression is that the article should describe the damage in severe terms.

Also, Silent Victory dates the incident as, "Late in the evening of July 11." This is a minor difference, especially as it is not always clear if a date is US or local to the event area.
