GA Review
[edit]Article (edit | visual edit | history) · Article talk (edit | history) · Watch
I will review the article, since I started the process anyway within the talk page. The article fails articles 1, 2, and 6 of GA criteria.
- The article 1 failure is the line of the lead that states "there are alternative cyclone scales." If so, dedicate a small section at the end, describing each one in a sentence, since there should be no unique information within the lead per the manual of style (it is meant to be a summary.) I will allow the continuation of the red link within the article, but as a head's up, this article will not pass FAC unless the redlinked article is created.
- Which Scales should we place in this Paragraph? HSI? JTWC?Jason Rees (talk) 17:57, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
- Here's the list: ACE, the Emanuel version of ACE with cubed results rather than squared, HSI, Hurricane Hazard Index, and IKE. You can even add a line about the proposed rainfall scale from 1973, mentioning that it was never used. If any of us think of more in the future after the GA passage, we'll add a line about them with the appropriate referencing. BTW...this paragraph could be thrown into the red wikilink as it will likely make a reasonable lead for that article. Thegreatdr (talk) 23:36, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

- ok ive added some bits in about ACE \(both Squared and Cubed) and HSI, i havent been able to find anything on HHI or IKE but ill look further tommrrow Jason Rees (talk) 04:18, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- Don't forget to add inline references. Also, don't cover JTWC as its own scale. All the regional differences in tropical cyclone categories are already listed in the article above. Thegreatdr (talk) 19:56, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

- The article 2 failure concerns the references. Not all the references have publishing years. This needs to be rectified.
- Thats going to be a problem as the references from the BoM and the RSMC's in New Delhi & La Reunion do not have Publishing years on them. I would guess the BoMs one is 2007 as their TC website was rearranged for the beginning of the cyclone season. New Delhi i would guess is 2008. Whilst i have no idea about La Reunion. - If it's a website, try right clicking and see when the page was last updated. As long as it is not a dynamic page, the date on there would work. Thegreatdr (talk) 21:33, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

- The caveat of the article 6 failure deals with one of the tables which includes Beaufort scale. Per my comment in the article talk page, there are countries that use more than 12 levels in Beaufort, which were introduced circa 1946. Include them into the table, with an appropriate reference, and article 6 will be salvaged.

- Done I agree, but consider just placing the ref only next to the Beaufort Scale header in the table to help with the article's appearance. Thegreatdr (talk) 17:32, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

I will place this article on hold for a week so you can deal with the issues. Otherwise, thank you for tackling the improvement of this article. Thegreatdr (talk) 20:40, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
Updated review
[edit]You've added the asked-for section about the other scales. It needs to be copyedited and also needs inline references. After this is done, I will pass the article. Five more days remaining. Thegreatdr (talk) 20:01, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- Ive given it a quick copyedit and referenced.Jason Rees (talk) 20:53, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- Reference 18 is a blog and can't be used. Otherwise, the article is nearly there. Thegreatdr (talk) 22:59, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- I was under the impression that reliable blogs can be used - ie HKO-BBC-Jeff Masters.Jason Rees (talk) 18:24, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- Others may allow this, but wikipedia (I thought) was quite clear on this. Besides, bad facts have shown up on his blogs, most recently connected to Hurricane Ike, so I don't completely trust his blog. Thegreatdr (talk) 22:06, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

- Made a couple more changes. Now I'm satisfied with the article. It passes. Congratulations! Thegreatdr (talk) 00:53, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
