Fair use rationale for Image:Torquemada2.jpg

[edit]

Image:Torquemada2.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit]

As of July 2008, this article is still written in a colloquial style in places, and is a good deal less informative than it might be. Torquemada's background, deeds and adventures are at present very thinly sketched, and the information that was included about his Terminator followers and the inspiration for their uniform (i.e. Ku Klux Klan robes) was very sparse and potentially confusing. I have fleshed this out to include reference to both the Semano Santo celebrations in Seville and the Spanish Inquisition, which are as much visually referenced by the Terminators' costumes as the Ku Klux Klan is. However, I think all discussion of the Terminators properly belongs in a new section of the main text and not in the introduction.

Also, the illustration of Torquemada (the cover of the reprint title, Best of 2000ad Monthly #100) is not a typical likeness of the character, whose more customary attire as the Chief of the Tube Police is a conical steel mask/helmet and a red robe that totally hides the contours of his body. --THE subscriber (talk) 11:38, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Richard75, for sorting out the 'Goya' ref! THE subscriber (talk) 23:33, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Let's Torq about the family man.

[edit]

Richard, reagarding this edit:

"Right, he loves his wife so much that he puts a bomb in her head, locks her in an insane asylum and remarries"

Yes, he does:

  • He loves her so much he puts a bomb in her head to prevent her leaving him for other Terminators while he's on his crusades, as clarified in Book 4, just before the Monads attack.
  • I don't see why locking her in an insane asylum - given that she is insane - means he loves her any less? Nor does remarrying - in fact as pointed out, he had Sturn killed when Candida's madness regressed. If he didn't love Candida, he would have killed her as well. Torq shows that he is prepared to do such things when he orders the Mimesis to kill Purity Brown - even admitting as he does so that he is still enamoured with her.
  • Moreover, the fact that he consorts with Aliens, to the degree where he allows them to create a body for him to live in just so that he can keep Candida, is pretty indicative that although not quite Richard Branson in his family matters, he has gone against his own beliefs to keep her. In fact this very point is hammered home several times during books 4 - 6, being a major plot device, aside from the usual "kill all aliens" storyline.
