Outdated term

[edit]

I am removing this article from categories of present-day ethnic classifications, just as has been done with other outdated ethnic terms such as Negro. As the opening paragraph itself states, tornatras is a term that has long fallen into disuse. For that same reason, I am removing the list of people who would have been classified as Tornatrás should the Philippines still have been a part of the Spanish empire.

Usually a different meaning in Spanish

[edit]

Just a comment: This term, "tornatras", has a different meaning in Spanish. Perhaps in Philippines you had change the original meaning.

In Spanish, "tornatrás" means usually http://buscon.rae.es/draeI/SrvltGUIBusUsual?LEMA=tornatr%C3%A1s a person of very mixed racial origin, that shows very clearly the racial characters of just one ot their racial antecessors. For example, a very mixed descendant of white and black, whose characters are of a pure black person.

But in the dictionary also appears "tornatrás" used in Mexico with a very particular meaning, I suppose they applied the word to a different meaning, as you did in Philippines. In Mexico "tornatrás" is the descendant of:

european + black = mulato

european + mulato = morisco

european + morisco = albino

european + albino =tornatras

So, in Mexico a "tornatras" would be a person with all european antecessors, but a black great-great-grandfather. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.14.104.217 (talk) 12:19, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
