Move

[edit]

Nope. Not even a little. Move it back to the COMMON ENGLISH Tiberius III. — LlywelynII 01:08, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Contradiction

[edit]

The sequence of events of his execution contradicts what's written in Heraclius (brother of Tiberius III). Here, it says that Tiberius and Leontios were killed, then Heraclius and other military commanders were hanged. However, the other article has Heraclius and his comrades dying in 705, some time before Tiberius. Can someone please investigate? Thanks. howcheng {chat} 18:45, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Howcheng. The situation is as follows: neither Bury, nor the ODB and the PmbZ (in Heraclius' article) say anything about the sequence of executions; indeed, as the PmbZ points out, we don't know the exact time of Tiberius' and Leontius' executions, which may have been as late as early 706. Heraclius and his officers on the other hand were clearly executed soon after the overthrow of Tiberius. In Heraclius' article I followed Treadgold, who goes by the later date for Tiberius' and Leontius' executions. In the present article, it is clearly a misinterpretation as Bury, as mentioned, does not make any such statement; he merely mentions the capture and execution of Heraclius and his officers after that of Tiberius' execution. I'll fix both articles right away. Constantine 09:22, 9 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Cplakidas: Thanks for taking care of that. You may want to do the same for Leontios. howcheng {chat} 16:46, 11 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

His family

[edit]

According to Grant Sumner ("Philippicus, Anastasius II and Theodosius III". Greek, Roman, and Byzantine Studies. XVII (1976), pp. 287–294), Tiberius had a son Theodosius, whom he identifies as one of the later Byzantine Emperors. Do we know anything more about his family? The name of his wife? Other children? -- llywrch (talk) 19:42, 17 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Llywrch: Added from the source; no other real details are known about his family except for his brother. Iazyges Consermonor Opus meum 07:23, 18 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Timeline snarl: Justinian and the Khazars

[edit]

In the current revision, under "Rule," Justinian is said to have escaped from Cherson in 693 after several years of exile, and sought military support from Khagan Busir of the Khazars, contemporary with Tiberius' time on the throne. That doesn't seem right; in 693, Justinian was still two years away from the end of his first reign.

It seems like a factual error to me, and I would correct it myself, but I don't have a reliable source to hand. Am I the one who's mistaken? ThirdEchelon (talk) 04:54, 17 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Neil 2000 citation

[edit]

This is a tertiary source (another encyclopedia), and not a very great one. Why not simply cite the reliable secondary source that source cites, Mango and Scott? -- GreenC 14:05, 3 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Special:Diff/1159784818/1163205882 .. likely every citation to this tertiary source can be tracked down to its original source and cited instead/in-addition-to, which would be superior quality for a featured article. -- GreenC 14:46, 3 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@GreenC: Undone; The encyclopedia is a very good one, in spite of appearances. It is preferable to have it cited to Neil, as keeping tertiary cites to DIR is common for FAC articles. Prefer to keep it standardized, even if its the only usage of that particular DIR article. Iazyges Consermonor Opus meum 05:48, 4 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Use of these sources is unadvisable and unwarranted when scholarly secondary sources are available. HammerFilmFan (talk) 17:34, 9 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
