Disputed identification of Image
[edit]The Image associated with this article is disputed.
The identical image appears in a painting held by the State Library of Tasmania here http://catalogue.statelibrary.tas.gov.au/item/?subject=Sailing+ships+-+Australia+-+History+-+Pictorial+works&i=1&id=168684 depicting the ship "Wanderer" owned by Benjamin Boyd, and which was wrecked in Australia in 1851.
It is possible that the US Navy lithograph purporting to be the US Wanderer is a copy of the Tasmanian painting, or vice versa.
However additional images of Benjamin Boyd's ship Wanderer appear here
http://acms.sl.nsw.gov.au/item/itemLarge.aspx?itemID=174360
and here, at the National Library of Australia
http://nla.gov.au/nla.pic-an9579638
and this latter image was published in a London newspaper in 1852, which is 5 years before the American schooner Wanderer was constructed.Eregli bob (talk) 19:46, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Consolidation of articles?
[edit]Hello all - It seems to me like the two articles USS Wanderer (1857) and The Wanderer (slave ship) ought to be consolidated into one article, because they are both about the same ship, albeit during periods when the ship was put to different uses. Could editors more familiar with the subject matter please comment on this? (Posting this comment on the talk pages for both articles.) Thanks. KConWiki (talk) 19:02, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
- Merge - Agree; it is just confusing to have two articles for the same vessel. There are other articles about vessels that changed their function and even names. You may have to propose 'Moving' one article to the title of the other (I would say move 'Wanderer USN' to the original' Wanderer' when built); can't remember exactly how this works. There's a new Legobot by which you can ask for opinions in an RFC to get more input (if you want it) from people who've agreed to be notified for that purpose. I've just started to participate in one on 'History and Politics.' With your interest in categorization, organization, etc. this might be really useful for you. (See Scranton General Strike as an example of an article in which this was used.)Parkwells (talk) 17:42, 2 June 2016 (UTC)
- Merge - Agree. The two articles overlap to a great degree. Acad Ronin (talk) 01:03, 30 November 2017 (UTC)
- Merge - Agree. The two pages should be merged --Legenderfox (talk) 04:07, 27 June 2021 (UTC)
