whitewashing

[edit]

Editor User:Erik made an edit adding a link to Whitewashing in film which was, quite properly, deleted by another editor. But if there are reliable sources criticizing the film for its casting and using this term, it would be possible for this Wikipedia article to cover that, depending on the quality of the sources and some degree of perspective (which i don't have myself) about anything being unusual in this film. When watching the film, I did raise an eyebrow about one casting decision, I will acknowledge. Hmm, googling "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot whitewashing" yields hits, including this People Magazine article "PEOPLE Review: Tina Fey Rocks, but Whiskey Tango Foxtrot Has a Whitewashing Problem". And there are other hits. So I think this should in fact be covered. --doncram 02:33, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

And there are other sources. I removed a new "See also" Whitewashing in film link and the following sources from the article, which had just been added. Because it is not proper to convey an issue by insinuation by a mere "See also" link, with or without source footnotes following. Do let's compose a proper sentence or 2 or 3 about whatever is the issue. The other sources found, put nicely into citation format already, are:[1][2]
I will try to draft something here, but anyone else's suggestions for wording here would be welcomed, too. --doncram 04:11, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The Entertainment Weekly source gives Tina Fey's response, by quoting from a New York Times "Q&A" interview of her. Great, it should be possible to state the criticism, plus some response. The NYT piece is displayed in, and might possibly be read from, the Entertainment Weekly's video story, but I am looking for the original NYT article. So far, here is a NYT review of the movie (by NICOLAS RAPOLD, March 3, 2016), but I don't find the Q&A yet. By the way, I see the criticism is about two castings, of Alfred Molina and Christopher Abbott, as Afghans. It was Molina who seemed to have heavy makeup that I found jarring; I had no issue with Abbott, and, as Tina Fey points out, some Afghans are Caucasian. I might not get anything drafted tonight though. --doncram 04:34, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I've expanded the description to explain the link is included. It more than satisfies the criteria at WP:SEEALSO. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 04:57, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
