[edit]@Fylindfotberserk: re: this edit, in the lead of a film article, establishing the nation of origin is important and standard. If warranted, establishing the language of origin is also important, so long as it differs from the nation of origin's main language. In your change, you highlighted an ethnic film industry which is a controversial change. You should discuss that first. Feel free to highlight your main points below: Cyphoidbomb (talk) 07:50, 16 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Cyphoidbomb:
- I would like you to clarify some of the points you made:
The primary topic for "Tamil" in an article lead is the language
- I don't understand what you meant by that. According to the Tamil disambiguation page, the ethnicity i.e. Tamil people seems primary. Although in this case it would definitely mean language.in the lead of a film article, establishing the nation of origin is important.
- As I can't see Indian in the lead
AR Murugadoss is directing an upcoming untitled Tamil-language film, referred to by the media as Thalapathy 62. It features Vijay and Keerthy Suresh in the lead roles.
- I believe Indian needs to be added.
In your change, you highlighted an ethnic film industry which is a controversial change.
- I wonder why it is controversial. The Tamil cinema lead clearly mentions that it is Indian and produce Tamil language movies.
Tamil cinema is Indian motion pictures produced in the Tamil language. Based in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, the hub of the Tamil film industry is in the Kodambakkam neighbourhood of Chennai. Kollywood is a colloquial term used to describe this industry, the word being a portmanteau of Kodambakkam and Hollywood.
- Linking the term Tamil-language film to Tamil cinema was an obvious choice since Tamil-language film = Tamil cinema.
- For now I believe I can edit the lead as
AR Murugadoss is directing an upcoming untitled Indian Tamil-language film,...
- What do you say?
Fylindfotberserk (talk) 08:59, 16 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Cyphoidbomb: You added Indian in the lead I saw but didn't clear the other points I mentioned here. Kindly clarify the other points. Fylindfotberserk (talk) 15:36, 16 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Fylindfotberserk: I was writing still writing my response: It's not very complicated. The topic we're most likely to be interested in (the primary topic) for India is the nation, not the people or its cinema. Similarly, if someone asks, "Gee, what is the Tamil language", they would expect to be taken to an article that explains what the Tamil language is. Put yourself in the mind of someone from Peru who has never heard of the Tamil language. If I described something as a "Canadian Esperanto-language film", the first question you'd ask is, "what the hell is Esperanto?" You'd no doubt want more info about that language. If we were talking about a "British Spanish-language film", if you clicked on "Spanish", you'd presumably want to learn more about the Spanish language, not about Hispanic people or the industry in the UK that produces Spanish-language films". By "controversial" I meant in the sense that applying ownership to a specific ethnic industry has previously been the subject of problems and disputes. One reason why we don't use Indic scripts in the infobox or lead is because of the disruption that is caused by people who apply ownership of a word or concept to a specific ethnic group. I've added [[India]]n per your suggestion. Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:49, 16 February 2018 (UTC)
Welcome and thanks @Cyphoidbomb: for the explanation. I believe we can add Indian before any Indian regional film article if not already present.
...applying ownership to a specific ethnic industry has previously been the subject of problems and disputes.
- Is it so? Can you direct me to the articles/talkpages where this happened and where it got solved. Nothing special, just out of curiosity and personal knowledge. Learning more about Wikipedia history that is. Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:46, 16 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Fylindfotberserk: I don't keep track of these disputes, but I do recall a lot of trouble at Baahubali: The Beginning where editors wanted to "give credit" to the Telugu film industry by removing mentions of Tamil, even though the film was shot in Tamil. Some of those discussions can be found at Talk:Baahubali: The Beginning/Archive 1. If you were interested in the rationale for the Indic script issue, you could look at this discussion. And just generally speaking, ethnic warring of all kinds is a problem, from the removal of a Pakistani actress from an Indian film she stars in[1][2] to the arbitrary reordering of languages,[3][4][5][6] which I interpret as a subtle form of ethnic-warring. Plot
[edit]Sundar Ramasamy is the CEO of GL, the World's No.1 Search Engine Company in USA. He is a specialist in acquiring the opposition companies by destroying their brand. He is feared among the world of Corporate and is often called a Corporate Monster. He visits his home country to India to cast his vote in his State Assembly Election, but finds that his vote has been already cast by someone else. Angered, he approaches the court and with his influence, he easily wins back his vote by referring to section 49P of Indian Election Rules, which state that if a person's vote was wrongly cast by someone else, then his vote can be re-cast as a ballot vote, upon submitting the required documents of proof. He also demands that the result of his particular area should be withheld. Angered by his approach, the ruling party of the state, which is also the favorites to win this time, infuriates Sundar by saying that his single vote doesn't make a difference and they are going to win anyway. One of their top leader even challenges Sundar that his re-vote will also be stolen from him.
Sundar is deeply angered and he insists the entire people of Tamil Nadu to fight back, if their votes were stolen too. The people respond and more than 300000 people file cases that their Votes were wrongly cast by others. This leads to the Supreme court to cancel the election and eventually the swearing in ceremony of the Chief Minister. The CM orders his men to get rid off Sundar but Sundar overpowers them and challenges the CM that he will fight against him in the re -election and defeat him in his own area. Whether Sundar won his challenge or not forms the rest of the story.

And we are not the finance department of Sun Pictures, so we're not here to keep track of their licensing deals. controversies
[edit]Most politically controversial film in the history of Indian cinema mention this sentence in the lead above
varalakshmi played the antagonistic role in the name of late chief minister jayalalitha actual name komalavalli mention it in the cast

— Preceding unsigned comment added by Hjkl12345 (talk • contribs) 20:48, 29 November 2018 (UTC)
- @Hjkl12345: "Most politically controversial film in the history of Indian cinema" is an opinion, and a hyperbolic one at that. We're not going to present an opinion as though it were a fact. As for the other claim, you haven't provided any references so that we can scrutinise the claim, but based on this, it appears that Jayalalitha denied that Komalavalli was her name. So no, we're not going to add that as though were an incontrovertible fact. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:55, 29 November 2018 (UTC)

- @Hjkl12345: Nobody said you were lying. A neutral encyclopedia does not present exaggerated opinions as though they were facts. As for the Komalavalli issue, I'm going to defer to more knowledgeable editors on this matter, but the content already exists in the Political controversy section. - No we can't "mention it without source". People come to Wikipedia and post all sorts of stuff, some of it true, some of it dubious, and some of it totally false. It is only by having a policy that unsourced content can be removed that we are able to make any attempt to keep out the rubbish. If we accepted unsourced claims just because someone or other comes along to Wikipedia and says so then the whole basis of Wikipedia would be destroyed. As for "orelse [sic] add this one", the source linked simply does not say that the film is "the fifth highest grossing south indian [sic] film of all time". That's all there is to it. You need to add Shangeeth Sathyanathan's name in the credits.
There are many sources saying he has been a part of this movie so there needs to be a page about him with all the movies he has been a part of and his name should be on all the movies he has worked on.
