In response to content that I have recently removed and has been disputed: Including information about what a friend of the subject did is beyond the scope of an encyclopedia. Seriously, he had a conversation with an old school friend that "sparked" them making a donation? If that was worth including every biography could have hundred of paragraphs about things they had "sparked" in conversation with friends. Under what wikipedia guidelines is this worth including here? Melcous (talk) 22:10, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Agree, this counts as trivia unless multiple source have mentioned it. The official HKU press release announcing the gift did not mention it. Possibly (talk) 00:12, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
My sincere thanks to all editors, especially user:Laiwoonsiu, for your interest in my part regarding the $140M donations to HKU. As the subject of the dispute, I respect the decision by Wikipedia. To put the record straight, the actual negotiation process among various parties was far from trivia. But I really enjoy the journalist's fantasy story --- that a chance meeting of a childhood friend not seen for decades can spark huge donations. In any case, I am most grateful to Mrs. May Tam and her strong consultancy team for the generosity. -- T.H. Tse as Thtse2020 (talk) 04:11, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Stop Press: Two colleagues related to the $140 million donations have been promoted to Vice-President and Associate Vice-President of our university. A third colleague has been recruited as Vice-President by another university. It is good that their efforts in obtaining a generous donation are well recognized, rather than considered as trivia. I am particularly happy about my own contribution several years after my retirement. Thus, the fantasy story about a huge donation sparked by chance encounter with my childhood friend not seen for ages, like other fairy tales, has a happy ending. -- T.H.
