Organizing Subsections

[edit]

Any ideas how to better organize the subsections? With sub-subsections? Or headers? Tomwsulcer (talk) 16:22, 9 August 2009 (UTC)tomwsulcer[reply]

I noticed improvements in spelling; and improvements in the article generally -- my sense is this information is more correct than before. Good job! Wonder if anybody figured out I use American spellings (organization) versus British/New Zealand spellings (organisation). Sorry about that. I'm a New Jerseyan. I still think this is one of the BEST articles about any statistical agency in the world (although I haven't hunted around that much.) If you need advice about how to reference things with numbers, ask me on my "talk" userpage. (click on the word talk to the right of my name).--Tomwsulcer (talk) 02:15, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This article could greatly benefit by more pictures

[edit]

Pictures of questionnaires. Pictures of the SNZ office. Pictures of SNZ people. Pictures of SNZ studies. Pictures of SNZ computers. If you work for SNZ or live in NZ and can take pictures, please do so, upload to Wikimedia Commons, and include them in the article. I have rudimentary guidance on my user page about how to upload pictures (see Tom's advice for nooBs). Or ask me on my talk page.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 16:08, 9 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

cleanup template

[edit]

The cleanup template was removed from this article. I have tagged more than a dozen dead links and am about to re-add the tag. Stuartyeates (talk) 06:50, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Rather speculative section

[edit]

"Perhaps in the future users will have the power to access a virtual database of updated census counts, that is, to access a virtual database created "as if the census was taken when the table was being pulled together" -- and by using filters, weighting, projections, and easy-to-use software tools, create data which describes "what's happening now". In the example, with such capabilities, one could say how many married (never-separated) Wellingtonians living in Lambton there were "right now". Further, projections could be made. But there is no evidence in the Statistics New Zealand website that such a capability is yet offered, but it is possible this may happen in the future."

This all just seems to be speculation. As it is I think the quoted material should just be removed - I like the idea, but I don't think it really belongs in the article. Perhaps if there was some indication that this might happen, or some comparison with other national statistics offices that do do this? I believe Stats NZ has a data lab that will provide customized data requests, perhaps something could be written about this, if there are published sources. Richard001 (talk) 02:42, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

http://www.stats.govt.nz/tools_and_services/services/microdata-access/data-lab.aspx Here's a page on the data lab - apparently it requires strict approval process and is not free. Richard001 (talk) 03:01, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe the section could be trimmed? My experience is having more references almost always improves an article, and maybe some of the capabilities have happened already since the text was written a few years ago.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 19:38, 12 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

==Assessment of Quality of article -- "Statistics New Zealand"== I've been working on this article. I think it's much better than before. But I can't find that much information from third-party neutral reputable sources about the size of the agency, its budget, how many people do which tasks, how much this costs, how many people do the census. I don't feel I've trolled the official Parliamentary information enough to learn new things (I bet there would be good, solid data in there, but it takes time to sift through!) I bet more published information is out there somewhere, it's just that I haven't found it yet. Great source of information when one can get it -- The Economist magazine. I'd also like to get more INTERESTING stuff about how it works, perhaps what people think about the census, and such. Much of the information available is from the SNZ agency itself. Couldn't find that much about the gLDP programme (not sure about count 10 to 15 graduates each year hired -- I remember reading it, but I don't think the source points to that fact.) I think the article needs better structuring somehow, not sure what to do. Tomwsulcer (talk) 16:29, 9 August 2009 (UTC)tomwsulcer[reply]

Oh dear, many of the refs are out of date. The article content refers to Table Builder, but this isn't very evident on the current Statistics NZ website. Is it still used? --Pakaraki (talk) 19:57, 26 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
