Proposed Edits: Arab-Israeli Conflict through Sport in Palestine

[edit]

I intend to make edits to this page in the "History" section. In this section I will go over some highlighted events in Palestine's history that have to do with the formation and destruction of sports clubs. The first fact I want to bring up is: Arab Palestine Sports Federation, which was established in 1931 and re-established in 1944, and included athletic clubs from all over Palestine. The federation was from 1931 to 1937 then again from 1944 to 1948. They oversaw a number of sports teams, the biggest being football and weightlifting. This information comes from: Sport, Politics and Society in the Arab World By M. Amara (p. 142).

There are a number of subjective reasons as to why Palestine could not rise in the world of sports, however it simply comes down to they did not have the resources or athletes to make it happen. https://electronicintifada.net/content/zionist-movement-and-sports-palestine/8198

After the failure of the federation, boxing became a phenomenon in Palestine. In general, boxing in Palestine was spread among four cities in Palestine: Jaffa, Haifa, Jerusalem and Ramla. Each of these cities hosted a number of boxing clubs. The stand out Palestinian boxers were: Sanharib Saliba, Adib Dasuqi, Nobar Kibril, and Mardos Bokreshian http://www.hpalestinesports.net/2013/11/boxing-in-palestine-sanharib-saliba.html

I am very open to suggestions or comments on this idea. Please comment on this talk page or my talk page if you have any suggestions.
