Hurricanes
[edit]"In September 2008, Hurricane Ike struck Galveston and managed to generate the highest surge ever recorded at Sabine Pass.[2]"
How frustrating, the author might have (should have!) indicated just *how high* was that record-breaking surge? But by now it seems that even the link to the reference is already broken. Toddcs (talk) 15:38, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
But maybe here is the answer. The NOAA tells us at http://www.srh.noaa.gov/images/lch/tropical/HPW1-SUN.pdf :
Hurricane Rita: September 23-24, 2005. Very large category three hurricane that made landfall between Johnson’s Bayou and Sabine Pass, affected most of Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas with hurricane force winds. Storm surge values across Southwest Louisiana were 12-18 feet across most of Cameron parish,and 10-12 feet across most of Vermilion parish, which was the worst storm surge flooding recorded during the last 150+ years of record keeping.
And there, again:
Hurricane Ike: September 12-13, 2008. Very large category two hurricane that made landfall at Galveston Texas. Storm surge values were 12-16 feet across western Cameron parish, which was slightly higher than that observed during Rita only three year searlier.
And at http://www.srh.noaa.gov/images/lch/tropical/LCHHurricaneGuide-SETX.pdf :
Hurricane Ike [...] Storm surge levels reached 18-19 feet near and southeast of High Island and along the coast of southwest Jefferson County. A 14-15 foot storm surge occurs at Sabine Pass resulting in the highest water level ever record at that location. Any structure that was not elevated was destroyed.

History section
[edit]The history section revolves around what is listed as the two battles of Sabine Pass during the Civil War. There were three battles (see Talk:Second Battle of Sabine Pass for reference) that are related to several articles. The Battle of Galveston (sub-listed as the Second Battle of Galveston) resulted in what is listed as the Second Battle of Sabine Pass making that article actually the third battle. I am looking into solutions and have to get a bearing to proceed to include;
- - Is there enough resources to create a First Battle of Galveston or a stub, or should the title be changed to Battles of Galveston with battle sections?
- - The same with the articles on the battles at Sabine Pass. This will involve (depending on resources) a)- Creating a Battles of Sabine Pass with battle sections and making moves or,
- - Creating a Third Battle of Sabine Pass, moving the second battle article to that one, and correcting the second battle article.
- I would appreciate any interested parties thoughts and ideas. Lacking any definitive plan I may make bold edits that might result in two articles titled Battles of Galveston and Battles of Sabine Pass. Otr500 (talk) 16:31, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
