Peasants or mercenaries?
[edit]The usual usage of routier I am most familier with is as the usual reference for a French peasant, agricultural laborer or rural vagabond. That is the usual official classification of "routiers" in Ancien regime records (esp. tax documents). I guess they might be related - in the sense that both an agricultural laborer and a mercenary roam the countryside and work for hire. This peasant definition should be mentioned somewhere in the article. Walrasiad (talk) 18:08, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
Improvement
[edit]This article has numerous problems of accuracy, essentially derived from the erroneous idea that routiers originate in the HYW. Also, the style of writing is distinctly unencyclopaedic. It should also be considered whether the article could be merged with Free Company.Monstrelet (talk) 13:18, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
- I've corrected the errors in the lead and made minimum structural changes to allow expansion. However, a great deal of work is still needed. Monstrelet (talk) 14:33, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
