[edit]

I am going to go ahead and delete this section as it contributes nothing, and does not cite sources.

Funny.. *sarcasm*, the person above is gung-ho about citing and then they didn't close their edit with four tilde's or sign in on a wiki userID. Here's the info about this edit above:

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 71.197.108.111 (talk) at 21:30, September 28, 2009< (→‎Sports: new section). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Incorrect Predictions

[edit]

If we have incorrect predictions, should we just put a list called "Predictions" and include both his correct ones and incorrect ones? Seems harsh to cherry pick the ones he was wrong on. JettaMann (talk) 21:29, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

+1 agree. From Peter aka Vid2vid (talk) 06:01, 7 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Open Source criticism

[edit]

I'm not sure his criticism of open source is necessarily an incorrect prediction. It's more like just criticism without any specific prediction. When he says Linux is "toast" I think he just means that Windows will continue to dominate. He certainly wouldn't mean that no one would use Linux anymore (like zero people). JettaMann (talk) 21:29, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot say with confidence what he meant by his criticism of open source software but it is rather obvious from his tone that he detests its existence. Looking at his employment history you see he is invested in big business and the profits made therein. We clearly see, now that it is 2010, that the open source movement has been gaining popularity. If you don't believe it then look at the download numbers for OpenOffice. Mike Metcalfe, distant cousin. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.29.170.154 (talk) 16:00, 31 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment comment

[edit]

The comment(s) below were originally left at Talk:Robert Metcalfe/Comments, and are posted here for posterity. Following several discussions in past years, these subpages are now deprecated. The comments may be irrelevant or outdated; if so, please feel free to remove this section.

I rated this article as "Start class". It has many of the elements of a good biography article, but still needs some work:
  • More references should be added for the statements in the main text. I believe that most of what's written can be found in the external links; these should be recast as references and used appropriately.
  • Metcalfe is a published author; there should be a full bibliography.
  • A photo would be nice. I have a query in to the Technology Administration webmaster about the copyright status of the photo on technology.gov.
  • More information about his InfoWorld column and his time as an executive at InfoWorld's publisher should be added.
