Is Change Good ...or bad ? Are we more obedient to God's Design or less ?

The Contrast between the 21st century Christian Church and the 16 or 1700's is very big.. very large .... What did they think back then and why ? What was their purpose ? Did they fear and respect God more then than we do now ?
