Book ban
[edit]It's interesting that the school board voted to ban Slaughterhouse-Five from the school library even though the U.S. Supreme Court already decided in Island Trees School District v. Pico that a school board doing the exact same thing in New York violated the 1st Amendment rights of its students. Thus it would be trivial to win a court case against the school district. Section concerning lawsuit against Republic School District.
[edit]On the same month, E.R., a seven-grader, and her mother, D.R., sued the district and three employees including Patricia Mithelavage, the principal, alleging the seven grader has been sexually harassed by F.S., another male student, and then raped on 2008-2009; the school didn't report the rape and pressured the victim, a psychologicaly fragile special ed, to recant then make her write a apology letter to her agressor before being expelled and be readmitted on the following schoolyear, during which she was harassed and then raped on February 16, 2010 a second time by the same boy; the mother brang her daughter to the police where a rape kit pointed to the boy as agressor, who pleaded eventually guilty, and the suit allegues the victim was expellec a second time for "disrespectful behaviour" and "public display of affection"[1][2][3]. The suit was eventually settled for $122,315 plus the medical and legal costs for the victim (and $62,684) on November under conditions of confidentiality[4].

This section was added earlier today and then reverted without discussion, then the revert was reverted. Before we get into an edit war, let's see if there is consensus to add this section. It was previously added earlier this year and subsequently removed without incident. If the section is to stay it will need considerable reworking of the prose to be encyclopedic.
