Introduction query
[edit]The introduction does not make sense to me. It makes sense to begin with the number of churches according to the Doomsday Book (eight), but then jumps to a decline by thirty nine. Shouldn't there be a statistic for what is presumably the peak in the number of churches before this decline begins? Otherwise the decline does not fit well into the text.
Then there is the fact that the focus of the introduction is entirely dominated by Christianity in York. Of course this should be the majority of the focus, given the prevalence of medieval churches in York and their rich history, but it leaves no room for any non-Christian religion, which in the case of Judaism has an important place in the city's history.
