Relevant use for RNA-dependent RNA polymerase information

Only negative-stranded RNA virus?

In the 2nd paragraph, it is written that "RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) is an essential protein encoded in the genomes of all RNA-containing viruses with no DNA stage that have sense negative RNA", however, I can't understand what "that have sense negative RNA" means. Does it mean that RdRp is essential for all negative-stranded RNA virus? If so, I think we should remove this sentence because RdRp is essential for not only (-) RNA virus but also (+) and dsRNA virus, according to references. Thank you. Well, we might link to Sense_(molecular_biology)#RNA_sense_in_viruses which explains viral RNA. A positive strand (or sense) RNA, like mRNA, is ready to be translated by a ribosome into protein. In that case, the first protein should be some type of polymerase. A negative strand, also called negative sense, RNA virus needs to include an RdRp to make positive sense copies of itself. A positive sense RNA virus can make DNA or RNA copies of its genome. But yes I agree that the description is confusing, and probably could be improved. I am interesting in the polymerase, i want to collect more details about the polymerase , such as : what is the best template for RdRp synthesize RNA in vitro? if i use Poly(rc) as template , how long of the poly(rc)?

Some RNA viruses, such as corona viruses, do proofreading on their RNA polymerase. I don't know if it is part of the polymerase itself, or a separate protein. (Or separate subunit.) As the article indicates, the error rate of the usual RdRp is about 1 in 10,000, which is fine for smaller viruses, but too high for larger ones, like corona viruses. There is, then, now much interest in the workings of corona viruses such as Covid-19. This article could either mention it, or link to an article which does. Pronunciation of “RdRp”

How is “RdRp” pronounced?

One part of the article uses “a RdRp” which implies that it is pronounced with a starting consonant sound (“a redrip”, perhaps?) and not “ar dee ar pee” or “ar en ay-dependent…”. pne (talk) 05:46, 7 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
