This is only a suggestion, I don't see it as a no-brainer. But until just now this article had far more about RAF Gravesend than its own article. I've copy and pasted the relevant sections into that article, but the fact that had happened in the first place makes me think that it would be more sensible to have one good article than two slightly out-of-sync ones. 82.20.52.30 (talk) 14:43, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

• Support Merge this information as RAF Gravesend. It is accepted policy that if an RAF station existed it should have its own article. If Gravesend Airport still existed and was still in operation it could also have its own article (see Enniskillen/St Angelo Airport and Carlisle Lake District Airport, but in this instance the history of the former (and extinct) municipal airport should merely form part of the history of RAF Gravesend. 21st CENTURY GREENSTUFF 11:29, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

Duplication

@Murgatroyd49 Firstly, my apologies for not seeing this issue earlier and leaving it for three months.

On 10 December 2024, six whole minutes after my edit, you reverted it, and asked the question

what duplication?

Six minutes - wow! As it happens, sometimes I miss the glaringly obvious too; it can happen to anyone. I suppose the issue might have been down to looking at one single section instead of the whole article. The duplication is the small matter of the entire paragraph, word for word, that I removed, and you immediately re-instated.

Many other units also occupied the station during the war years, such as 71 Squadron, which arrived 14 August 1942 for the Dieppe Raid, 92 Squadron (24 September 1941). 306 (Polish) Squadron, arriving 11 August 1943 and 65 Squadron, which arrived 29 July 1943, and was the first Squadron to be issued with the North American Mustang III in December – making Gravesend the first RAF base to operate it.

Worse still, there is yet further duplication, to a lesser extent, in that this text is repeated a third time (albeit in a different form) in the section headed Squadrons based for periods; not a section heading I am particularly fond of. Twice is ok, particularly with a different presentation (plain text versus list), but three times is surely too much?

Can I leave it to you to revert your reversion?

Oops! Apologies for that. Going through it more carefully I see that whole section merely duplicates part of the previous section so I've removed the lot. Regards Murgatroyd49 (talk) 15:31, 24 February 2025 (UTC)
