I really don't think it is a good idea to merge all the pages on lesser known sub pages into this one. For one thing you are not going to include all pub games in the one article — darts is always going to be too big in its own right. Besides, I can't see any benefit from doing this. This page should really just be a list of what pub games there are, with some discussion of changes in popularity over time and geographic variation. -- Solipsist 12:22, 7 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've restored information on the games, but trimmed the info and provided links to the individual articles. This now provides some descriptive material on the minor games plus allowing people the opportunity to read in more detail if they wish. This will both allow a one page summary of the minor games (plus links to further information on the major and minor games) while at the same time giving the minor articles room to develop. I still can't see any reason to do this — remember Wikipedia is not paper. Most of these games are not exclusive to pubs and are better off in their individual articles, even if some are currently stubs. The more normal Wiki way, is to sumarise the various games here, preferably with context giving their relative importance in the history of pub games, and provide links to their individual articles.
Duplicating the articles leads to divergence, and is probably the worst alternative. -- Solipsist 20:13, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have reinstated the original bullet point summary list of traditional pub games, as this serves as a useful overview and index to other Wikipedia articles, and moreover I think some of the games in the list were no longer referred to in the article when the list was taken out. unrelated point

[edit]

can i just ask, what the image of a yard of ale has to do with pub games, aside from being alcoholic and available in pubs? i dont know any pub games that involve yards of tasty beverage... downing a pint isnt really a game, is it? 88.108.146.129 (talk) 01:19, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Did you not read Yard of Ale? Its quite a challenge to drink that much beer in one go, and a s the article suggests, drinkers could compete for fastest times Lovefist233 (talk) 14:00, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Chequers

[edit]

What the USA calls checkers is called draughts in real english, as far as I am aware, it is never referred to as chequers, as this is the British spelling, and British people would call it draughts, if that makes sense, so it should either be linked as Draughts or Checkers, preferably the former as pub games are more British than American Lovefist233 (talk) 13:55, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dwyle flunking

[edit]

You are having a laugh? First, this is drinking game and games such a boat race are much more common. Secondly there is no verification of its popularity - I have never heard of it. Martin Hogbin (talk) 15:09, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well blow me down, it is a real game, but I do not think that common. I have left the reference in under 'other games'. Martin Hogbin (talk) 19:35, 17 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sub-headings

[edit]

Can someone please explain the criteria used to determine the style of sub-heading attributed to each Pub Game. Why, for example, is the popular game of darts given such a small heading, whilst games I've never even heard of ('Devil among the tailors' and 'Ringing the Bell') given such a prominent heading? Article is a mess

[edit]

This article is a real mess. I'd like to have a go at tidying it up, but would appreciate some comments/suggestions before I do. It's pretty clear that we can't list, for example, all the card games played in pubs, so surely the best approach is to have a brief explanation of what a card game is, and a link to the card games page?

Separating out 'sports' and 'games' also seems overly complicated. Some activities are both sports and games, some can be either, depending on the context of how they're played. Ideas anyone? Obscurasky (talk) 14:37, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
