General concern
[edit]This is very opinionated with little or no substantiation for comments such as "best Cure guitarist" and "favorite lineup".
- So, out it goes... --Fire Star 14:59, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
Lol Tolhurst?
[edit]Isn't it commonly known (no references to hand - how ironic) that Lol was considered mostly useless by the band by the time he was credited with "other instrument" on Disintegration, so I would contest his inclusion even in a proposed list of major Cure figures. He was also (AFAIK) omitted from the Lullaby video, despite appearing in costume (with brass instrument?) on the Picture Show video, during the making-of sections.
(OK, without him in the early 80s The Cure may have disbanded totally, but didn't Robert Smith play almost every instrument on The Top, despite having a band around?) -- Skewer 11:39, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
I'm not sure what your point is. What does this have to do with Porl?
Also, Lol was a founding member of the Cure and played drums on the first four albums, not to mention playing keyboards after that. Whether or not his contributions to The Top and Dinsintegration were negligible, he's most certainly a "major figure". --Actionsquid 22:33, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
- I think when I wrote that there was some unnecessary paragraph on this page about Lol or about "the greatest cure lienup", something like that. Obsolete now, feel free (Actionsquid) to edit out this whole section when you've read it :) Skewer 05:43, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Pronouns
[edit]The pronouns are inconsistent, starting with the female and then switching back and forward. What are Thompson's preferred gender pronouns? Shouldn't these be used? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.98.68.255 (talk) 03:26, 23 July 2016 (UTC)
- This was a mess, and I tried to clean it up some. I believe that male pronouns should be used when necessary, but that gender references should be minimized overall. There is no reliable sourcing suggesting Pearl self-identifies as female as a formal matter, in fact it seems to be the opposite. Pearl is a "he" with female interests. Leave it to the French Belgians to actually report something on this, on RTBF in April 2016 [1].--Milowent • hasspoken 13:01, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
- One addition here, I noted in this April 21, 2017 video interview with Lol Tolhurt and Pearl [2], Lol refers to Pearl as a he throughout. There's some discussion in the comments about this. It seems to me that Pearl has adopted a position that will cause the internet to fret over ambiguity, but he's a "man" for purposes of this article. I hope editors more astute to these topics agree with my edits to the article, I was a bit apprehensive to wade into this.--Milowent • hasspoken 13:11, 20 March 2018 (UTC)
Citations added
[edit]I have added several citations, two of which come from blog or wordpress articles. It is a fact that Parched Art was collaborative effort between Andy Vella and Pearl Thompson. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of sources on the web. I can go into the wayback machine if needed, but my belief is this trivia was so obscure, at the time in which it existed, that it was barely reported on. Name Change, Timing
[edit]The current citations for the change from Porl to Pearl do not actually say when he legally changed his name. I'm not removing the 2011 date given at this time, but it needs verification. CAVincent (talk) 03:38, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
