Politecnico di Milano (not Polytechnic University of Milan)

[edit]

I suggest to change the title of this article to "Politecnico di Milano". It is an explicit policy of the Politecnico that the name of the institution be always written in Italian. See for example their web pages in English: http://www.polimi.it/en/university/. Academics working at the Politecnico are required to sign their papers with their affiliations written as "Politecnico di Milano". It is also more consistent with the rest of the article, where it is always called "the Politecnico". Gmrozz (talk) 07:23, 15 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Gmrozz: this issue has been discussed before, see for example the requested move in a previous thread. I personally opposed the rename to the current english translation, but apparently the consensus is that this is the most common and recognizable name for english speakers, and this is a more important parameter than the official policy of the Politecnico per WP:TITLE. (P.s. I moved your section at the end of the page as it is common practice to have recent discussions at the bottom) --Ita140188 (talk) 08:40, 15 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
There seems to have been very little support in the earlier discussion, for moving to the English name. I support a rename. (Disclosure: I recently did some teaching at the university). Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 10:19, 15 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that "Politecnico" is part of a proper name and, as such, ought not be translated.- phi (talk) 16:24, 11 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The name is "Politecnico di Milano", no matter what. The reason "Polytechnic University of Milan" is still there is the reason why you should not democratize knowledge: ignorance is ignorance, and you are supporting it. Actually, it is a shame. Do you want a solution? When a user go on this page you will redirect it to the correct one, and you will explain to the user that the correct name is "Politecnico di Milano". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.218.226.5 (talk) 09:30, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
