I can help expand this article by creating a subsection called Lebanon and providing more information about Habib's work there using Al-Jazeera's War of Lebanon (Harb Loubnan) documentary. However, I am not sure if there is any interest. Also, if I create a 'Lebanon' subsection, I guess a 'Vietnam' subsection is in order, and I do not have much information about his work there. Given that Habib was Lebanese and that he pretty much singlehandedly managed to get a temporary peace between Israel and Lebanon, I think that it was a significant achievement, deserving of the subsection you mention. Let me know if you have any questions about the subject; I have the book on it ("Cursed is the Peacemaker"), I'm the liquidator of Habib's estate, and friends with his widow, so I can run any questions past her. Given the mess made by Arafat and his PLO in the West Bank and Gaza from 1994 on, and the disaster of Hamas taking over Gaza, one must ask the question as to whether this fine diplomat should have been sent on his mission to Lebanon. I can imagine a better world for everyone, most especially the Palestinians and the Lebanese, had the Israel Defense Force been allowed to eliminate Arafat and the PLO in 1982. 216.99.185.5018:13, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
"In 1990 Nicaragua held a free and fair election. President Ortega lost to Violeta Chamorro and stepped down."
Firstly, it describes events that occurred after Habib's involvement in the region ceased, so I don't believe it's relevant. Secondly, it implies that there had not been free and fair elections under the Sandinistas. Thirdly, it neglects to mention the threat of continued US sponsorship of the Contras if their favoured candidate was not elected.
