Reported death from One Chip Challenge

[edit]

There's news12 of a student passing away shortly after participating in the One Chip Challenge. Should this be added to the article? I don't know the protocol for such a situation, especially something so heartbreaking, and wanted to check before making any edits.

We’re limited to including verifiable information from reliable sources, which is that a student ate a super-spicy chip and died shortly thereafter. Although the student’s family is saying that the chip caused the student’s death, that hasn’t been backed up with evidence. It might be better to wait to add this info until a source without a direct connection to the decedent, such as a health department official, makes a statement establishing a connection. Which is more notable?

[edit]

Should we just make a new page called One Chip Challenge with a "Background" section regarding the company? The challenge appears to be more notable than the company itself. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 20:08, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The page used to be called “Paqui Carolina Reaper” for similar reasons. The brand created the super-hot chips as a publicity stunt, and it definitely seems like the challenge is responsible for most of Paqui’s publicity. White 720 (talk) 21:20, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@White 720: If nobody else object, I would like to move this page to One Chip Challenge per WP:ASTONISH and WP:COMMONNAME. I don't see the move as being controversial. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 12:49, 6 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds ok by me, but there’s already a redirect at One Chip Challenge, so you may need to get an admin involved. White 720 (talk) 13:17, 6 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's just a simple redirect (with no history) back to here, so it is a simple move to perform I think. Given that the brand has no notability outside of this event, this seems reasonable. Iskandar323 (talk) 13:21, 6 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@White 720 and Iskandar323: The move has been made, feel free to improve the page as needed. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 14:23, 6 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
