Renaming

[edit]

Hallo!

As i've seen the whole series of Otogi Zoshi, I know, that the Actors pronounced the "o" of Zoshi merely like "ou" (in the Preview in each episode). Based on that I suggest the renaming of this article into "Otogi_Zoushi".

Setsuna

When I first watched the show in fansubs it was spelled Otogizoushi (one word) however the DVD release is printed as Otogi Zoshi so perhaps this is correct. Either option is fine with me. I'm glad to see someone is working on this article, it's been on my to-do list for awhile now. Stardust8212 13:43, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I would suggest moving it to "Otogi Zōshi", as the use of macrons is preferred in Wikipedia rather than the "ou" romanized spelling. That said, the anime project people are quite touchy about using the English title rather than the more correctly romanized Japanese title. LordAmeth 21:37, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merge

[edit]

I'm not sure who suggested the merge but I would support per my comments about naming above. Stardust8212 20:49, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure about the policy on this but since the other article appears to just be a more indepth summary of the Heian Arc and is completely unformatted couldn't I just make it a redirect from here and remove the merge suggestion? I don't see anything of use on that page at this point that isn't already on this page. No one seems to care about the issue except for me... Stardust8212 01:27, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Spoke too soon, I just looked up the policy and here is what it has to say:

After proposing the merge, place your reasons on the talk page and check back in a couple of weeks for a response. You may be able to invoke a response by contacting some of the major or most-recent contributors via their respective talk-pages. If there is a clear agreement after two weeks, that the articles should be merged then go ahead and merge them. If there is no response after four weeks then go ahead and merge the articles.

There seems to be clear agreement, at least between myslef and whoever nominated it (not me) and it's been at least a month so I'm gonna "Just do it". If anyone has a problem with this please let me know, I don't intend to step on any toes here, just wanna resolve the issue. Stardust8212 01:32, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

_ _ Well. This may or not be the same merge. An editor states, in rv'g the beginning of my attempts to correct the disastrous handling of the various Sadamitsus, that Usui Sadamitsu (Otogi Zoshi) was merged here before covering its content with a rdr, instead of doing a history merge. If the content merge was done, that in practice concealed the authorship of User:Darin Fidika, arguably in violation of GFDL. It appears (pending any further clarification from the editor in question) that it was not merged, since the only element common to the new Sadamitsu section and the old Sadamitsu article seems to be Raikoh, but not under the same circumstances.
_ _ In fact, i now find that in the merged section, Sada tries to pass for retired, is male, and "wields two long swords" and either stealth or remote viewing, and is a character in an anime. But in Usui Sadamitsu (Otogi Zoshi), Sada is young, female, "wields a scythe", is somehow notably associated with ice, and is a character in a game. The fact of the matter is that no merge should have been done, and covering the article with the Rdr amounts to an unauthorized deletion of the game-character's article.
_ _ The solution to this is IMO

  1. Creation of Usui Sadamitsu (disambiguation) with three entries i know of,
  2. Additional Dab(s) remedying previously chosen "Dab'd" title(s) that fail(s) to Dab'ate accurately, and
  3. Counseling of the editor in question that WP:BOLD is not a license for reckless editing, such as seems to have taken place here.

  • I managed to get the texts i was examining confused, and the fix needed is probably indeed to do the history merge. My apology for any inconvenience.
    --Jerzyt 09:48, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK:

  1. As i previously began by saying, "This may or not be the same merge", and the summary was inadequate to avoid research in the wretchedly inaccessible 23KB+ section on characters, to determine whether material had been lost; it had in fact been copied over, accomplishing a cut&paste merge.
  2. As of yesterday, the article was over 30K, perilously close to expansion beyond the 32K point where some users would be unable to edit the article as a whole, as is sometimes desirable, and whose alternative (section edits) even experienced editors may not be aware of. The character descriptions also overwhelmed rest of the article, making it too large for the convenience of readers. It was a poster child for the MOS counsel that some such articles must have the character profiles split out as a group; that is what i have done, into Characters of Otogizoshi anime.
  3. As i also said, the history was effectively buried in writing an Rdr on top of the original version, in practice concealing the authorship of User:Darin Fidika, arguably in violation of GFDL. My next task here will be effecting the history merge.
  4. Whether bcz the intitial contribs were never adequately checked, or bcz no one has fixed un-Dab'd lks that have later been sent astray by retitling of their respective targets, at least the Sadamitsu lks need to be repaired. At least some of them went to the article on the "bastard" article covering both the traditional character and the video game one, which acknowledged the existence of the anime only in a ToP Dab. The work of fixing those lks i am leaving to other editors.
  5. I have split that Sadamitsu article, created a corresponding Dab, and at least begun the Dab'g work needed for Otogizoshi, but all Rdrs that lead (directly or via relevant Dabs) to either of the targets of the Dab Otogi Zoshi should be thot thru: if two uses of a spelling (by the same or different users) could be intended differently, one for reaching the anime and one the traditional work, they need to go thru Otogi Zoshi or perhaps a new one. I am leaving such Dab inspection to others as well. (In this regard, and in light of the discussion above about the macron, note that the Dab'g sfx "anime" should not be considered as made redundant by the macron in the traditional work's WP title. Differences in diacritics, transliteration/romanization, and division into separate words should not be relied upon to dispense with Dab'g sfxes; the results of doing so would be even more confusing for users than the situations i've discussed here.)
  6. Other rdrs from char names to this article should be suspected of concealing cut&paste merges that need the corresponding history merge(s) done to comply with GFDL and WP policy. I'm pleased for the opportunity to set a good example by doing the Sadamitsu one, but i leave it to others to follow up on any other needed Hx merges.

    • 1: All merges should be cut-and-paste. No one in his or her right mind would print out the page and re-type it. I think you're getting cut-and-paste merge mixed up with cut-and-paste move. I was a properly done merge per WP:FICT and WP:MERGE. There is no need to merge histories. The only thing that I can (perhaps) be faulted for is not written the edit summary as clearly as I could have.
    • 2: The 32kb thing was fixed and is no longer applicable. See:WP:SIZE and WP:FICT Please brush-up on current guidelines regarding the subject. I will undo this move soon. (You also named the page inconsistently with precedent. Anime should be in parens.)
    • 3: Merging articles doesn't not affect the GFDL per WP:MERGE. The authorship was not hidden and could be easily determined from redirects.
    • Finally: User:Darin Fidika's prose is so awkward and full of un-needed detail that all of his character articles need a good cleansing. In fact, it may be better to start from scratch. I'm working on totally replacing his text with a translation from the Japanese Wikipedia for another series. See: WP:WAF for more information on guidelines for writing about fictional characters. I may do this article next. --Kunzite 04:52, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article Class

[edit]

I just noticed that this article was still rated as "Stub Class" but I think it fits the description of being "Start Class" now. If anyone disagrees they can change it back. Hopefully I will have time to put some work into improving this soon. Stardust8212 20:28, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Cover1.jpg

[edit]

Image:Cover1.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Hikaru Genji...?

[edit]

Can someone locate a source that points out that "Minamoto no Hikaru" is an obvious reference to The Tale of Genji? If there aren't enough secondary sources that basic facts like this cannot be stated in the article without resorting to original research, the article should probably be deleted or merged.
