ECO?

[edit]

What is this ECO party? The link leads to List of political parties in France but there's no party with that abbreviation listed and it doesn't seem to appear in the sources cited either? Akerbeltz (talk) 14:56, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think it is not a political party but rather a political nuance used by the Minister of the Interior (like DVG DVC and DVD) or pollsters. It usually refers to ecologist candidates that aren't from PÉ. 78.114.160.168 (talk) 17:17, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That would make sense. But in that case, the page target is not ideal. Maybe a stub for Party aggregates in French polls or something like that? I was none the wiser with the link having taken me to List of political parties in France :) Akerbeltz (talk) 11:16, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Groupings for NFP and DVG in Table

[edit]

Why is DVG under NFP for Seats Polling Table but not for % Table. Most Parties listed under DVG are also listed in NFP like "Federation of Republican Left" or "The Radicals of the Left". So what is the criteria for listing them as such? OguHunter (talk) 21:19, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In the case of the Elabe poll for the 11-12 June, it was a choice by the polling firm to list DVG (including dissidents) together with NFP/FP in the seat count, but not in the projected vote count. Personally, I would prefer if we keep it the same as the way polling firms publish it, which is not the case as of me writing this, so as to not cause confusion. Anondoggo (talk) 17:08, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Seems reasonable but if the NFP vote will be counted as a sum total, shouldn't the background shading marking the current party ahead be based on the total, not the largest constituent? Akerbeltz (talk) 22:21, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Graphical summary

[edit]

the repartition of polls since 2022 make it difficult to read the graph for recent polls. I think the 2022->2024 graph is still intresting to see the longterm trend, however it is very difficult to deduce anything from polls since elections have been announced, because 3 weeks is too small on this 2.5 years graph.

I think adding a second one with only data from june (the announcement of dissolution by Macron) would make it easier to read this part. Basque_mapping as you are already generating this graph, do you think this is a good suggestion, and would you be able to generate it ?

Events

[edit]

@Impru20 Having events in the opinion polling table is actually entirely normal on Wikipedia, e.g. Opinion polling for the 2024 Mexican general election. Apparently many people find these useful... Exarchus (talk) 08:56, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No, it is not normal. What some people (frequently IP users) do is to unilaterally add events into tables without any consensus. This is a trend which has plagued Wikipedia over years, and in some articles local consensus have been reached to limit their scope or remove them altogether. Opinion polling tables are not tables on events. Cherry-picking which events to add and/or which may have an effect in opinion polling poses WP:NPOV and WP:SYNTH issues; to be truly neutral you would have to add every single event reported in the media, which would then make the opinion polling table useless for its original purpose. If you want a timeline of events, you already have 2024 in France for it. Impru20talk 09:44, 20 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
