Notch in Immunology

Notch signaling has been found to play a crucial role in T cell lineage commitment. I have added a reference to a review in current opinion rheumatology. There are more original articles in Pubmed and we can actually create a new page on Notch role in T cell development rather than add more here —Preceding unsigned comment added by Abledoc (talk • contribs) 00:53, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

Differences with old diagram

The previous diagram showed Notch 1 extracellular with O-fucose tetrasaccharides and O-glucose trisaccharides on the individual EGF-like repeats that actually contain the sugars (there is a consensus sequence for these types of glycosylation). There is a small, mostly transmembrane remnant of Notch still in the membrane subsequent to gamma-secretase cleavage which would emphasise that both the Notch extracellular domain and and NICD are being cleaved away from the larger Notch heterodimer during the signaling process.

I'll probably add a schematic of Notch 1 that is blown up, shows the EGF-like repeats, glycosylation, other domains of Notch etc. in the future.

I like the picture but it would be good if the small differences could be made more like the previous one for increased accuracy, and because future pictures will be related to the previous one I put up. Although you should probably ask Arcadian, the user who deleted them, I guess it is because the boxes were about the (Drosophila homologues of the) protein and this article should be concerned with Notch signalling, which involves much more than just Notch. Merge proposal

The article NOTCH proteins should be merged into this article since it adds very little information that would not benefit from being here, unless more can be found to say about the NOTCH proteins. WeigelaPen (talk) 12:15, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

Identification of Notch mutations The first published description of the Notch mutation is described in Dexter, J.S. (1914), The analysis of a case of continous variation in Drosophila by a study of its linkage relationships. Am. Nat. 68, 712-758 and not by Morgan in 1917 as stated in the wikipedia Notch entry. Morgan and Bridges isolated new Notch alleles only in 1916 which are described in the 1917 publication, Metz and Bridges, (1917), Incompatibility of mutant race in Drosophila. PNAS, 3, 673-678.

Embryo Polarity in C. Elegans

In the Embryo polarity section, what process in C. Elegans is this sentence referring to? "During C. elegans, GLP-1, the C. elegans Notch homolog, interacts with APX-1, the C. elegans Delta homolog." There is obviously something missing. --Spucky123r (talk) 07:06, 10 June 2023 (UTC)

Bogart, snooker and Notch

One reason for a {{citation needed}} template was: "This claim needs a reliable source; Bogart was a famous actor, and his major biographies don't mention snooker." As there was no mention of anyone called Bogart, nor of snooker or actors anywhere else (including the text preceding said template, I doubt this is the correct reason.
