Alumni Queries
[edit]Myfanwy Piper was listed as an artist, but the NLCS website describes her as an art critic & librettist, so I have modified this. However, I have no other knowledge of Piper's life/occupation. Raoul2 00:04, 25 November 2005 (UTC) Myfanwy Piper worked with Benjamin Britten, and was married to artist John Piper
Since this is an all girls' school, "alumni" should be changed to "alumnae." "Alumni" is plural for either a group of male-only or a mixed group of former students.
- Very well - I've changed this as you suggest. Raoul2 18:07, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
- This is not correct. Alumnus is a latin noun of the second declension. As such, the plural nominative (which is what we want here) - regardless of gender - is alumni. Batmanand | Talk 09:27, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
Rachel Weisz was at NLCS for only a very brief period before going to St. Paul's, which seems to be the only school listed on IMDB, and other interviews I've seen. This enlightening article on Tiscali appear to back this up. She would have been two years above me (her younger sister was in my year) and she definately wasn't there when we were passing through school (1984-1991).
I have 2 questions:
- What is a reasonable period for someone attending an instiution to be classed as an alumnus? It's not clear from the wiki article.
- Does she qualify or should she be taken off the list? Groovycathers 13:08, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Was Jane March at NLCS? According to her date of birth she would have been in my year (84-91) and she definately wasn't. Can anyone verify if she was a year ahead or at a different school please? Groovycathers 21:19, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
Isabella Drummond
[edit]Isabella Drummond is listed as having previously been Head of Camden School. Is this Camden School for Girls which was founded in 1871 by Frances Mary Buss, or is this another school? Coyets (talk) 09:29, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Yes, it is
- So I have added a wikilink to make it clear. Coyets (talk) 22:06, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
School Name
[edit]Was it originally called North London Collegiate School for Girls? This is the name given by David Buckman for 1910. Ty 09:22, 8 September 2008 (UTC) Originally .........for Ladies, then .............for Girls, yes —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.198.31.19 (talk) 22:13, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Male alumni
[edit]Edgar Albert Smith was educated in this school per the reference: [1]. Could this unobvious statement be true? --Snek01 (talk) 01:52, 28 August 2011 (UTC) No. There was an unrelated school for boys called North London Collegiate School, which closed after a few years. There are no extant records of this school — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.144.19.92 (talk) 18:34, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
South Korea?!
[edit]Is that for real? If it is, then I'd love to know more. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.78.86.39 (talk) 10:13, 16 November 2013 (UTC) Yes, Jeju, South Korea http://www.nlcs.org.uk/708/international/nlcs-jeju
