Suspending funding
[edit]This is the announcement about “suspending” funding:
"NESTA is in a period of transformation and is in the process of developing a new five-year strategy. As part of this, we are reviewing the way in which we make investments with the aim of increasing access to seed capital for new ideas, and leveraging further investment from angels and venture capitalists. Consequently, we have taken the decision to suspend the Invention and Innovation programme open-application process with effect from 9am Thursday 13th April. More information about the suspension of this programme."
Basically, they have ceased to fund individual innovators and inventors. They now want to concentrate on giving out leaflets.
Well done the Venture Capitalists – you now have your monopoly back.
Nesta has become a charity
[edit]This page needs updating - Nesta has left the public sector and is now charity.
Let me know if anyone wants to help do a re-edit on this page based on the following info:
Nesta had its status changed from NDPB to charity on 1 April 2012.
It means it is now overseen by the Charity Commission, has charitable objects to which it will be held to account, and has a new direction, outside the constraints of central government.
NESTA is no longer stands for the National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts - it is now just Nesta (lower case).
It has a different logo.
Future aims are outlined in the document currently on the website ("New Nesta") but is written from internal viewpoint - so needs qualification.[1]
The main areas of work are now set out by charitable objects, by Charity Commission as follows [2]

Overview section:
- Specific text to be added - after the first mini paragraph:
Nesta’s purpose is to design, test and scale new solutions to societal problems. They act through a combination of programmes, investment, policy and research, and the formation of partnerships. In 2021, they announced their 10-year strategy to place efforts within three core missions: A Fairer Start, A Healthy Life, A Sustainable Future.
Reason: This is their new stance since the launch of their new strategy in 2021 References supporting change: https://www.nesta.org.uk/data-visualisation-and-interactive/introduction-our-strategy/ <ref>

History:
- Specific text to be added - after current last line within this section:
Please add: In March 2021, Nesta launched its new 10-year mission-driven strategy, focusing on sustainability, health inequalities and the education attainment gap.

- Question: Is this really notable? Are 10-year strategies of organizations typically added to their articles? If it's implemented I think I'd like to see less promotional wording, specifically eliminating "mission-driven" and adding how the goals are to be achieved. Following Nesta’s new 2030 strategy, Nesta primarily operates in the following three areas:
A Sustainable Future: Nesta’s programmatic focus is on reducing household emissions by 28 per cent versus 2019 levels, helping to ensure the UK is on track to reach zero by 2048. They will also explore how to improve the UK’s productivity levels.
A Healthy Life: Nesta is focusing on increasing the average number of healthy years lived in the UK, whilst narrowing health inequalities. In order to halve the UK’s obesity rate by 2030, Nesta is primarily focusing on tackling food environments. Their secondary focus is expanding the evidence bank on the link between loneliness and ill health.
A Fairer Start: Nesta is focusing on narrowing the outcome gap between children growing up in disadvantage and the national average. Nesta aims that, by 2030, the UK will have eliminated the school readiness gap between those born into deprivation and their peers, with similar gains at age 16 among students receiving free school meals.
Outside of these core missions, Nesta also works within innovation discovery, and the arts and culture economy.
Nesta also operates a number of specialist programmes within the innovation space:
Nesta Challenges. A financial reward programme incentivising problem-solving and unique innovation.
Innovation Growth Lab. An initiative led by Nesta in collaboration with government partners, working globally to promote experimentation and ensure that innovation and growth policy is informed by new ideas and robust evidence.
People Powered Results. An enterprise that focuses on place-based and people-focused approaches to achieving system change. They work with local and national organisations and people to create the conditions and cultures required to rapidly adopt new innovations and scale what works.
Nesta Data Analytics. A multidisciplinary team of developers, data scientists, visualisers, user researchers and ethicists exploring innovative and responsible applications of these methods to achieve social impact.
Centre for Collective Intelligence Design. An integrative team that uses novel data, digital technologies such as AI, and participatory methods to engage diverse groups of people in new ways. The Centre helps organisations use these approaches to generate new insights, create innovative solutions and make more inclusive decisions.

- This page is out of date and needs multiple updates including logo, imagery and organisational updates and changes. Could an editor assist with making these updates as they keep getting rejected? It would be good to explain language choices. I.E The reason why it's important to talk about their new strategy is because it's completely changing the direction and identity of the charity, changing the areas of innovation they're focusing on and their goals. The reason why 'mission-driven' is used is that it's integral to their new strategy, focusing on 3 long-term missions to achieve by 2030. However, the charity is at the beginning of their 10 year strategy, scoping out what needs to be done, creating theories of change and planning how to achieve goals. Therefore concrete, published examples of work achieved is not yet possible whilst work is underway. Would be really great if an editor could help to make the appropriate edits and get this page up to date, as it's currently very outdated. Hellowritingstuff123 (talk) 15:25, 15 October 2021 (UTC)
