Navel Disparity Between the Sexes.
[edit]Strange that the article talks about gender equality in the modern era, but I count 1 male navel half hidden and no less than 22 female navels, including two on statues. Obviously this represents the same kind of thinking we see in Playboy magazine or in professional athletics, Ironman, triathlon, etc. (Where most or almost all female competitors generally have their navels and midriffs exposed but none of the male competitors do.) Curious.
I suppose all three are areas largely run by men (Wikipedia, porno mags, sports) and its all about putting the female figure on display.. No feminist thinking here... Lucien86 (talk) 13:54, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
- How do I tag this article with the appropriate tags?! It is horrible that all Wikipedia articles relating to Navel (there are enough to form its own template at the end of each page) aren't written like an encyclopedia. I (and others) deleted most of the information as well as excessive amount of pictures. The article Navel is a medical related article and must be kept encyclopedic. Even if the "Navel In Popular Culture" has to do with sociology it still should remain encyclopedic. Currently it looks too much like a magazine. Although the article states that males were never required to hide their navels (this is not true) there should be some information added about an increase in navel exposure from men. The bare midriff shirt worn by several men in the 1980s, as well as some 1980s American Football attire, could be added to this article. In Correct (talk) 21:36, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
- After spending hours organizing the article and including more information about male reaction to navel exposure, I am going to stop for now. I have included a few information about Male navel exposure with a few citations. I am going to search for pictures but I need help. I am looking at adding pictures such as Will Smith wearing a crop top, pictures to demonstrate men wearing various clothes similar to 1980s fashion (with the exception of covering the navel). This includes shirts that expose the lower abdomen but cover the navel (even with stretching or raising arms), shirt that reveals chest, torn sleeveless shirts that reveal ribs but not navel (called "dropped arm holes"), the various styles of B2K which includes one style of lifting the end of the shirt and pulling it over the head and placing it around the neck; and Ezekiel Elliott. I do not know how to add pictures especially if they are copyrighted. In Correct (talk) 00:05, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

Relevancy?
[edit]I'm sorry but what relevancy does a list of random celebs who have worn outfits with bare midriffts have? Witing that an actress wore such an outfit to the Ant-Man premiere without anything else says nothing of value. ★Trekker (talk) 17:59, 29 March 2023 (UTC)

Very sloppy writing
[edit]Much of this article seems to have been written by people not proficient with the English language, or who didn't get through primary school. The article desperately needs a wholesale top-to-bottom rewrite. I've rewritten a couple of passages but barely made a dent. In some instances, the writing is so bad I can't even determine what the sentence is supposed to mean. One example: Danica Patrick made a post on Instagram the comparison to the way she poses, lightning, cloth adjustments like lower rise jeans to further enhance the look to her midriff that she makes in photoshoots to a picture she doesn't have. (Huh?? I don't even know where to start in reworking that. Maybe such passages should just be outright deleted.) Yesthatbruce (talk) 17:59, 3 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Yesthatbruce: I know it's a late reply, but thanks for raising this issue on the talk page. I hope the current iteration of this page is acceptable; if this article needs any further pruning or copyediting, I would welcome the input as I still think parts of it are quite messy.
