Identity of article subject

I just began cleanup of this article for the Article Rescue Squadron (ARS), and created its ARS rescue list entry. In the process of converting its references from bare URLs to full list-defined references, I found that all three of the English-language sources (I do not read Malayalam) refer to Nandini Nair, rather than Nandini Sree. I'm wondering if this article could be a hoax (or a confusion), attributing information about one individual to another individual. Alternatively, it could be a matter of two names for the same person, but so far I have been unable to verify that. I have accordingly tagged this article as a possible hoax, and posted a query about this article at the BLP Noticeboard.

I first became aware of this article while doing proposed deletion patrolling, and I had never heard of either Nandini Sree or Nandini Nair before. If these two people are the same, I would really appreciate a link to a source explaining that; I have been unable to find any such.

It's confusing. The talk show "Hello Namaste" is definitely for Nandini Nair.[1] I fouind one NetFlix source that said Nair and Sree are the same, but it contains malware and not very reliable. I can't find anything else.. worst case is just rename the article to Nair and make it about her, since there are more and better sources anyway. -- GreenC 15:12, 26 November 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for checking. I agree that the best solution is to move the page. Nandini Nair is definitely not a hoax, and her name ought to be used for the page, since it's the one used in the sources. I would like to get an administrator to do the page move, though, since it would be best not to leave behind a redirect from Nandini Sree. If reliable sources later confirm that the two are the same, the redirect from Nandini Sree can be created as a separate operation.

It looks as though they're the same person, and it's a matter of maiden name versus married name; for example, this autobiographical article gives her husband’s name as "Vinay Nair", and this article about her response to sexual harassment gives her name as "Nandini Nair", but links to her Facebook page, which gives her name as "Nandini Sree". Not ideal for the purposes of article sourcing, but enough to convince me that it's a matter of two names for the same person. I have accordingly removed the {{hoax}} tag. But sourcing to pin this down is really needed.

Given that I no longer have any real doubts about the person's identity, and that all or nearly all of the best-quality sources call her Nandini Nair, I've moved the page myself and left Nandini Sree as a redirect, rather than wait for an administrator.

Indian National Film Awards

just noticed, and added to this article, a bombshell dropped casually in one of the existing sources in the article (Soman 2014-12-21): Nandini Nair has won three Indian National Film Awards. This ought to be GAME OVER to any attempts at deletion of this article, per WP:ANYBIO. While the award may not be well-known in the Western Hemisphere, it certainly is in India. Her fan base would presumably qualify her as notable via WP:CELEBRITY as well.

My apologies, I misunderstood the source. As noted by IP editor 117.251.230.133 in their edit summary for removing this claim from the article, it was Naseeruddin Shah, not Nandini Nair, who won the awards.

Claim of highest rating for Hello Namaste

I've removed the claim that Hello Namaste "was the highest-rated television program of its kind in history of Malayalam celebrity talk shows", which had been marked as "citation needed". I could not find any sourcing for it. This is without prejudice to replacement of the claim if and when it can be sourced. Note that most links found by searching on "Hello Namaste" are to the 2016 film Hello Namasthe (which does not star Nandini Nair), not to the talk show.

Educational background

I've removed the claim that "She completed her schooling from Our Own English High School in Dubai and later mastered in multimedia and animation from Picasso Animation College, Delhi", which had been tagged with {{citation needed}}. I could not find sourcing for any of this except that she had gone to school in Dubai (with no indication of exactly where or when). This removal is without prejudice to replacement of these claims if and when they can be sourced.

Adjustments incident

I've reverted removal of the entire section "Adjustments incident". While it's true that there is no evidence this is a real producer, the feminist significance of the incident is not entirely dependent on its being a real producer. Also, undue weight is determined by the proportion of coverage in the sources, not a priori. The section covers what is there in the sources, and goes out of its way to avoid claiming in Wikipedia's voice that it was a real producer.

Another point: if anyone still feels that this three-sentence section is undue weight, a more appropriate way to address the perceived problem would be to add further material on other aspects of the subject's career, rather than to remove this section.
