Ultimate Mistake

[edit]

Who ever wrote the some representatives songs section made a terrible mistake.

Why isn't Mera Joota hai japani in the list. It is Raj kapoor's most famous song, and it is one of the songs that represent him. Please folks, edit this section and put this song in there please. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.59.10.33 (talk) 02:04, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Can someone add it? It not, I will do it sometime soon.--Vikramsingh (talk) 06:49, 22 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Now, there is a gap of 10 years, 1998 to 2008. Any suggestions?--Vikramsingh (talk) 08:45, 22 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help!

[edit]

Folks! help.

There is a 23 year gap. Please suggest me 2-3 greatest songs of that period, so I can fill the gap.

Bahaaren phir bhi aayengi - Lahore; and

Dil Jalta Hai....[Pehli Nazar]". No doubt the kind of
songs he sang were predominantly the "SAD" type, but if one
were to look a bit more closely at his gamut, he would realize
that he was not made for the sad ones only. Mukesh was at his
best with songs like "Bade armaanon se.....[Malhar], Tere hoton
ke do phool...[Paras], Tum roothi raho..[Aas ka panchi], Dil ki
nazar se...[Anari], Saawan ka mahina, pawan kare soor'..[Milan],
Bikhara ke zulfen....[Nazrana], Ik raat mein do do....[Barkha],
Mera pyar bhi tu hai...[Saathi], O Mehbooba...[Sangam],Dam bhar
jo udhar....[Awara], Dheere dheere bol koi.....[Gora aur Kala],
       Mera joota hai japani...[Shree 420], Suhana Safar..[Madhumati],
Dil tadap tadap keh raha...[Same movie], Maine, Tere liye hi...
[Anand]" and a lot more. Who can forget his "Har dil jo pyar
       karega...[Sangam] ?

I beg to differ. What would you call "Jaane kahan
gaye woh din...[Mera naam joker], O' re taal mile nadi ke jal..
[Anokhi raat], Saranga teri yaad mein.....[Saranga], Dost dost
na raha.....[Sangam], Aaya na humko pyar jatana....[Pehchaan],
Laakhon taare aasman....[Hariyali aur rasta], Aaja re ab mera
       dil pukara...[Aah], Bhooli huyi yaadon...[Sanjog],

Urdu Translations of Songs

[edit]

Could someone who is knowledgeable in Urdu give the Urdu translations of the songs in the artice? I noticed someone has already done so for one of them. Thanks.

I'll try to transliterate some of the songs into Urdu, but since I'm not a native speaker, I'll probably make mistakes. But I'll try to see what I can do, no guarantees though. --Basawala 17:29, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Song titles

[edit]

I think one of the songs has an incorrect title. It has: "ho koyal kuke huk uthae"; I think this should be: "ghar aa jaa pardesi"

Thanks. I have made the correction.--Vikramsingh 00:57, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Which site have Year wise listing of Hit Hindi songs

[edit]

Some listing of yearly hit Hindi songs is given on page Binaca Geetmala but it stops at year 1980. Is something similar available somewhere for period 1980-till date. Vjdchauhan 21:06, 31 March 2007 (UTC).

Viewpoint

[edit]

Do you really want to put representative songs. There are too many to put in and through each edit some will keep adding more (their own favourite). It can make the article unmanageable.

Yes, there are too many. However I think the current list is a well selected list of representative songs. So far, no one has added any songs to this page after my initial selection. Howevr I have seen them added to other articles.--Vikramsingh 17:29, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Non-capitlization of song titles?

[edit]

The only capitalized song title is Chaiyya Chaiyya (possibly because of its own wikipedia page), but why aren't the other songs capitalized? I'm not sure if they should be capitalized, but songs in America, etc are indeed capitalized... why not these Hindi songs? --Miss Burkle 00:37, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the suggestion. I have capitalized the songs.--Vikramsingh 17:28, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject class rating

Does the page contain all of any songs, or most of words in a song? If so, that song is a copyright violation, and may not appear in Wikipedia. To be a copyright violation, all that is necessary is to copy all, or a substantial part of a work of art. If that work of art is only a few lines long, it's still a copyright violation. Intro Section not exactly accurate

[edit]

1) "Most of them are easily understood by anyone in the Indian subcontinent."

Really? I'm a Bengali speaker from India and don't understand most Hindi songs, and definitely not most Bollywood songs with Urdu in it. Same with other non-Hindi speakers.

2) "The lines of Bollywood songs are some of the most memorized and repeated expressions in India. Yet, since Bollywood has not been considered formal literature, the lyrics of the Bollywood songs have not been studied in an academic setting."

First line: Huh? Maybe in states where Hindi movies are hugely popular. Second line: What? 172.162.118.208 (talk) 20:21, 8 November 2009 (UTC)Ayan[reply]

Confusing terms

[edit]

The terms "Bollywood" and "Hindi film songs" are being used interchangeably which is quite confusing, because Bollywood song lyrics are not always completely in Hindi, as well as Bollywood films, which often incorporate other languages of Indian origin.
