History

[edit]

Anyone know any history of this festival? Has it been going long or is it new? Website has blank history section, and many underconstruction sections, which isn't good. While it sounds like an interesting festival, but without much more details, it may get nominated for an afd and be deleted as non-notable, especially if this will be the first one. Talking to myself, this now appears to be a long running festival [1] says that 2006 is the 30th anniversary, and other events like the Triathlon is going for 24 years[2]. With some work, I think this has potential to be quite an interesting article :) MartinRe 14:31, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I do believe this is a continuation of the former King cotton festival from the early 20th century. after cotton fell out of popularity i think this festival replaced it... Barcode 22:32, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The Memphis in May festival was established in 1977, and it is quite notable. For example, the Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest was listed in the Guinness World Records as being "the largest pork barbecue cooking contest in the world," which regularly draws over 90,000 people to downtown Memphis. The Music Festival drew 118,000 in 2007 alone. Gregchilders 17:47, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

==Importance==

Mid importance. The festival is know within Tennessee beyond the local level but not necessarily known to residents of other states.

==Quality== Start class, barely made it. The article is structured and contains useful information. There are no redundancies in the informaion.

Necessary to reach a higher rating are more complete wikification, citing sources/references and adding images to illustrate the topic.
