Not a Tuxedo

[edit]

This character is called "Tuxedo Mask", but he doesn't wear a Tuxedo, he wears White tie evening dress. There's a very clear distinction and I think it should be noted in the article, probably in the description of the character. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ozoneocean (talkcontribs) 11:13, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Birthday

[edit]

Where's the source for Mamoru's birthday? Apparently we need one, and I can't find it in either the Materials Collection or Volume 11. Not sure where else to start looking. --Masamage 04:10, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nevermind, I found it. Act 18. :) --Masamage 00:27, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Probably OR... but worth the shot...

There is another better oil picture of it, but I think this illustrates it well enough. The trinket on King Endymion and the trinket on Edward the VII is *exactly* the same. It just so happens that originally the Tuxedo was called a Smoking Jacket and was used for such functions. The person who issued this first jacket was Edward the VII, Prince of Wales at that time. In fact, the many trinkets on the breast seem to *strongly* resemble some of the badges Edward the VII wore....

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oOdc1mcb5SY/SAdVpQNvWXI/AAAAAAAAAPw/7LMGZ4B2iAQ/s320/KingEdwardVII.jpg <-- you can see the same suit here...

http://www.gac.culture.gov.uk/gac_images/Fullsize/04654.jpg <-- here is the exact sequence here... that's on the breast pocket.

He also *traceably* started the Sailor Suit trend with children... I think the temptation for Takeuchi-sensei was too great and she recognized through her research that this was a man to model the tux on and actually copied some of his badges, which you can see from the pictures. But I'm afriad it's waaaaayyy too OR, even if it's kind of plain to see...

The copying of the Trinkets, Le Smoking Bomber, slang is smoking Jacket, and the connection with the Sailor Suit... why not do a large tribute by copying some of the things that made him prince? Plus the fact that the prince is wearing a white tie with a contrasting color... It's almost hit you over the head. Oh well... probably OR... --Hitsuji Kinno (talk) 02:38, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's definitely OR, even though it's awesome. The thing is, there were probably other fashionable men from Edward VII's time that wore things like that, too; you can trace it to the time period pretty easily, but not 100% to the king himself. The "smoking" thing in Tuxy's attack name is almost certainly a pun, but again, it's the name of the whole line of fashion, and not just in Edward's case. And the sailor suit thing could just be a huge coincidence, even if we don't want it to be. So yeah, it's fun, but we can't use it here. --Masamage 05:11, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
More of the same OR....
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Yw3TVdcHbSg/R11oxTrQaBI/AAAAAAAAAH0/18mLFxnQ_To/s400/KingEdwardVII.jpg The trinket here below the tie is EXACTLY the same as the trinket here: http://mangastyle.net/book5/v5-29B.jpg
>.<;; I wish this wasn't OR, but they do look pretty much exactly the same. And this is something that Takeuchi-sensei would pull... there is even one of Edward the VII in a cape similar to King Endymion... http://www.londononline.co.uk/graphics/monarchs/edward_vii.jpg I SOOO think she borrowed from Prince Edward to create Tuxedo Mask. There is a claim by Henry Poole that they were the first to create the tuxedo (Smoking Jacket) for Prince Edward VII and he popularized the tuxedo. (as well as pretty well-documented claims that he also popularized the Sailor Suit).
