Talk:List of sister cities in Europe

I can see that English cities are mentionned with the English flag, not the British one. Same thing for Northern Ireland or Wales fort instance. I suggest we make the same for the Breton cities, which are quite a lot actually, as the breton flag is well-known. The other French cities will stay with a French flag. This will make the article more precise. --Lisenn (talk) 10:31, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Putting Bretagne and France on the same level is unacceptable. Rama (talk) 13:14, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Republic of Ireland

[edit]

Once the List of twin towns and sister cities in the Republic of Ireland article has been improved, would it be acceptable to move the cities from the main page to Ireland page as ha been done with the UK page?Halowithhorns89 (talk) 09:36, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gouda Gouda has three sister cities, as can also be read on the Dutch wikipedia site http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gouda#Zustersteden Only Gloucester is mentioned on this page —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.100.238.85 (talk) 15:36, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ordering

[edit]

The ordering within each section seems to be rather arbitrary. Is there a hidden rule? It is neither ordered on the country name nor its symbol. I am happy to reorder them, but should they go (in multi-columns) down the columns or across? It should, at least, be consistent across the article. Splitting article

[edit]

I'm in the process of splitting the larger sections off to separate pages, and I'm letting AnomieBOT clean up the orphan references. Just letting y'all know I know I'm leaving orphans -- I'll check to be sure they all get cleaned up, but the bot seems to be getting them. --Auntof6 (talk) 04:36, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re with the Ireland comment from a year or so above: Rep. of Ireland seems the only one left now, which makes it stick out like a sore thumb. Is there any good reason for it? It's so obviously anomalous that I am disinclined to take WP:BOLD here.
Best wishes SimonTrew (talk) 08:36, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Another user did most of the splitting after I posted this. That user said there was already a separate article for Rep. of Ireland, and was, I believe, giving some thought about how to handle. Probably just had to go take care of real life stuff before getting to that one. --Auntof6 (talk) 12:09, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It was a little more complicated as it is organised by counties of Ireland, rather that alphabetically
It's done now -- Marek.69 talk 03:48, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Gibraltar, Jersey

[edit]

Have added these as orphans. No doubt they have twinning lists, but this edit just a start to match Funchal. (No, they are not part of the UK!). Davidships (talk) 17:57, 14 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Twin towns

[edit]

Does anywhere in Europe call twin towns sister cities? I thought it was just America. Btljs (talk) 22:38, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

European Country missing

[edit]

Hello guys, Cyprus as a european country is not in the list.. i am bot familiar with the whole "mention a point" procedure, so i just said it here.. if you need anything let me know.. thanks AlexDiablo90 (talk) 13:04, 4 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Caucasus

[edit]

Should the Caucasus countries be here? All three, some of them, or none? I have raised similar question here, so please before commenting here read the discussion there and if your argument is valid for both articles let it there.

The main difference is that the watershed of the Greater Caucasus puts some area in Georgia and Azerbaijan to Europe. Currently none of the towns in the European parts of either country is listed in the particular article, however, at least Khachmaz (city) in Azerbaijan has significant population (40k) and has listed twin towns on its page and it could be easily added to the list. On the other hand Georgia has no bigger town because the European parts are too mountainous.

I'd say there are 4 possibilities: all 4, Azerbaijan and Georgia, Azerbaijan only, none of them. I personaly am in favor of their exclusion. --Pan Někdo (talk) 19:37, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I wanted to emphasize that I don't support the current state with only Georgia because for me Azerbaijan has more right to be here than Georgia. --Pan Někdo (talk) 19:38, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
