The objection is simply absurd. Any list of authors which is not controlled by a purely formalistic principle will never be complete.

The aim of this list is fairly obvious. It is to give a good selection of writers of highest quality and international renown for those really interested in literature. (Nobody is obliged to use it...) Some of the writers have the received the noble prize , others haven't like Mandelstam who died in a russian concentration camp. But anyone who knows a little bit about russian literature knows that he is one of the greatest russian poets.

Some of the writers are from smaller countries and might be less well known to some Americans -- but please leave others the chance and the joy to discover. --88.73.64.88 (talk) 10:24, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Should Bob Monkhouse really be on there? :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.64.186.13 (talk) 03:31, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Split

[edit]

The idea of this article even being legit or comprehensive is of course, ridiculous. We have biographies on over 200,000 20th-century writers, so this should be split into sublists by nationality and genre but maybe also List of 20th-century writers (A–Am), List of 20th-century writers (An–Az), List of 20th-century writers (B–Bo), etc. I personally think it makes more sense to lay that ground work now before it get unwieldy. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 18:01, 2 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
