The page in this format is simply a duplicate Category:Lakes of California. It really should be moved back to 'Lakes of California' and some information or table should replace this laundry list. -LlywelynII (talk) 15:38, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that, as it stands, the list is not terribly useful. However, I think you're exaggerating a bit. Unlike the category, the list is purely alphabetical, so articles can't hide down in subcategories such as Category:Lakes of the Mojave Desert. The list includes a few redlinks (lakes that don't have articles yet), so it's somewhat useful to someone looking to create a new article. And (as you suggest) the list could be expanded with additional information -- see List of reservoirs and dams in California for a possible model. Finally, the list is part of an (admitted incomplete) schema -- see Template:Lakes in the United States.
The biggest problem I see is that California is so big. With over 4,000 named lakes and reservoirs in the state, there's not much hope of ever getting an exhaustive list. I prefer to focus on enumerating lakes by county or region. Another approach might be to create stricter criteria for inclusion -- perhaps only listing natural lakes or lakes over a certain size.
Wikipedia:Categories, lists, and navigation templates may be a useful guide here.
If you could get a couple data added for each lake (lat/long, area, depth, type, county) what one or two would you most want to see? --Stepheng3 (talk) 18:02, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Another lake for the list

Quarry Lakes in Fremont, CA

It appears that "Quarry Lakes" is the name of the park. The individual lakes have names. I will try to gather the information needed to create new entries. —Stepheng3 (talk) 05:17, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"It is also the largest freshwater lake by area, at 191 sq mi (490 km2)"

LOL, have any of you people ever heard of Lake Michigan, or Lake Superior? The latter contains over 31,000 square miles of water. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bumblebritches57 (talkcontribs) 06:15, 23 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Forgive my ignorance, but it seems like neither of those is in California. Hijiri 88 (やや) 22:27, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Column sorting?

[edit]

It says:

"To sort on a different column, click on the arrows in the header row."
I see no arrows, and it does not function that way in my Android 11 phone.
For example, when I click on the counties header it takes me to a list of counties.
I see sorting by column to be potentially extremely useful for exploration. But sorting by name-only is only useful if one already knows the name of a specific lake. 2607:FB91:798E:19D5:8CB7:C3FF:FE80:910D (talk) 13:22, 2 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
