PROFESSOR M.MOUHAMED FROM PONDICHERRY RECEIVED CHEVALIER DE LA LEGION D'HONNEUR

Somebody appear to have deleted the entire list of all recipients from DENMARK! E.g. Denmarks royal family is very closely connected to France for centuries and our current queen was even married to a French count until his death just few years back. Many Danish Royal and arts folks have been awarded this through the years, as have some of our government representatives, sports and business people. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:A03F:A109:C900:7901:E550:EB91:27F5 (talk) 10:14, 16 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

United Kingdom recipients

[edit]

Searching for a particular recipient, I came across the following:

  • Commander Harold Victor Dundas, R.N. Croix de Chevalier.
  • Vice-Admiral John George Lawrence Dundas (3 November 1893 - 26 March 1952) Officer, Legion of Honour.
  • DUNDAS, Adm. Sir Charles Hope (28th Chief of Dundas), K.C.M.G., of lnchgarvie Comm. of the Legion of Honour
  • Robert William Dundas, MC, Legion of Honour, (1881-1928) Shipsview (talk) 16:24, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps add to footnote 3, a published reference in my personal library? -- American Legionnaires of France: A Directory of the Citizens of the United States on Whom France Has Conferred Her National Order The Legion of Honor, compiled by James Howard Gore, (Washington, 1920). Contains 451 pages of recipients and short biographies (perhaps 1,500 individuals?), mainly awarded to officers and soldiers in the A.E.F. during WW I. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.66.209.137 (talk) 02:27, 21 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Turkey recipients

[edit]

Hello, I looked on internet for sources confirming/verifying that the person Osman Hamdi Bey received the Légion d'Honneur, however I couldn't find any sources. Also the articles for the same person in English Wikipedia, French Wikipedia and Turkish Wikipedia, all seem to not mention that he received this award/honor, at all. Any help? --SilentResident (talk) 22:33, 26 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Filipinos

[edit]

According to one source (RR Philippine Almanac: Book of Facts, 1986 ed.), on 25 April 1861 Filipino soldiers were honored with membership in the French Legion of Honor for fighting in Indochina. Can anyone please confirm this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.3.139.136 (talk) 11:05, 23 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Missing UK Recipient

[edit]

Flight Lieutenant William Joseph (Bill) Eames of Northern Ireland received the Legion of Honour in 2016 (not sure of the exact date) for his service on D-Day, dropping troops in Horsa Gliders to secure Pegasus Bridge. He was also involved in drooping troops during Operation Market Garden in Arnhem and was badly injured by ground flak. despite his injuries and severe bleeding he was able to guide his crew and limp his Short sterling back home before collapsing and being hospitalised for 6 months. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.150.67.93 (talk) 10:57, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

User ‘JBW’ Deleted Many UK Veterans From Article

[edit]

Editor ‘JBW’ has deleted many British military veteran recipients of the Legion D’Honneur from the above article citing ‘lack of citations’ associated with each veteran as his reason for deletion. However, there is a link to the French embassy defence attache’s database which clearly lists each veteran, the year they were awarded the honour and the degree. All if this was done without debate, in of itself unusual. I’ve left a message on JBW’s talk page asking him to revert the deletions.Roland Of Yew (talk) 13:05, 8 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Their reasons seemed pretty reasonable. In the edit summary they wrote:

'Over the years this list article has become a mess, with problems including, but not limited to: extensive content which belongs (if anywhere) in articles about the individual people, not in a list; unsourced content; content relating to people with no evidence that they satisfy Wikipedia's notability guidelines; inconsistency of formatting and layout in different sections; in some cases insufficient content to identify the person named; personal commentary or subjective opinions about some entries'.

It might be worth spinning off the British entries into a separate article. No Swan So Fine (talk) 14:16, 8 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Me either, in many respects his edits were well overdue and I agree, the idea of a separate article for British entries sounds like a good plan.Roland Of Yew (talk) 20:33, 8 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
