Just wanted to say that the Corpse Mom doesn't look like a zombie to me. She looks quite a bit like a female variation of Oogie Boogie.

This Is Just Sad!

[edit]

This page is pathetic. It's teeming with fancruft, original reasearch, and unfounded wild guesses. Either someone gives this a giant facelift or I do!!74.138.7.148 02:48, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So do it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 149.72.62.207 (talkcontribs) 20:46, 29 January 2008

Deletion Nomination

[edit]

Well the arguments regarding deletion aren't, in my opinion, enough to actually delete this article, but it's in really bad shape. I removed many headings and did some cursory copyediting, but assuming that the article survives the writing is not really that close to encyclopedic. I don't know the movie or franchise well enough but I recommend identifying the characters by their actual names and writing short, third-person descriptions of each.--otherlleft (talk) 01:30, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Propose page move/rename

[edit]

I propose a page move/rename to Characters in The Nightmare Before Christmas or something that drops the "list of" due to the current version of the article, which is more than just a list of characters. Best, --A NobodyMy talk 07:02, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Moving it now would likely screw with the AfD, but given that the shape of this article is much better than before the AfD (amazing what a little deletion "threat" will do!), it has a chance of staying alive. At that point, go ahead and move it! ~Auzemandius {talk/contrib} 10:23, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'm wondering if what we really need is some kind of article on the franchise as a whole? Best, --A NobodyMy talk 18:16, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Expanding section on design

[edit]

I want to expand/write a section on design/development, etc. and think something like this would be useful, but sadly Google books doesn't have the full text. Does anyone by chance have this book? If so, please help us develop the section on the characters' development and design. Thanks! Sincerely, --A NobodyMy talk 04:13, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image(s)

[edit]

So far the only attempted image was this one, but are there others we can use? Best, --A NobodyMy talk 19:14, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal

[edit]

I come with this proposal to merge Sally (The Nightmare Before Christmas) and Oogie Boogie into this list mainly because both of these charactes, unlike Jack, have not managed to prove real notability outside The Nightmare Before Christmas, its spin-off material and other Disney-related media such as Kingdom Hearts. This means that none of them has recieved deep coverage by a vast amout of reliable secondary sources, discussing the characters individually and not as part of a review on the film or anything else (Sally's line and a half of "reception" is far away from establishing notability), and also none of them has get clear impact in popular culture or become a cultural icon such as Jack. Thoughts? --LoЯd ۞pεth 00:19, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose as at least Sally has managed to prove enough real world notability to justify a stand alone spinoff article. The way to go is further expansion. Best, --A NobodyMy talk 00:26, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It would be great if you pointed Sally's notability out since I was not able to find it in the article. But let's imagine for a second she actually does meet notability. But what about Oogie Boogie? --LoЯd ۞pεth 00:43, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
She is part of a franchise that includes a film (which has been re-released in 3-D), some video games, her theme song has been covered by Amy Lee and other mainstream artists, she appears in various books, as numerous toys and other replicas, as costumes, etc. and is undeniably familiar to millions of people worldwide. That is notable by any definition of the term as out of the million or so fictional female characters only so many have a theme song, film appearance, video game appaearances, shirts, costumes, toys, snowglobes, etc. Sally has been merchandised more than Oogie Boogie, although Oogie Boogie is a titular character in a game. She gets over 300,000 Google hits and over 200 on Google books, which I have found is not as coprehensive as one might think. Best, --A NobodyMy talk 01:19, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The result is a Keep for Sally. However, since Oogie Boogie's notability was not established (being a title character in a novel/film/game means nothing, take Dumbo as an example), he is merged into the list. --LoЯd ۞pεth 19:31, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merge #3

[edit]

Sally ought to be merged. It's overblown plot descriptions and trivia that can be shortened and put on the list. It has only one line at the end that deals with reception and that's trivial at best and can be incorporated here. Any thoughts?--GroovySandwich 13:24, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oogie Boogie resembles Pere Ubu?

[edit]

I had always assumed the Oogie Boogie character was borrowed from Alfred Jarry's Pere Ubu character in his 1896 play, "Ubu Roi". But after getting around to finally checking the wiki article tonight, I see no mention at all. These two characters share a rather striking resemblance in appearance, but also in his irreverant, cruel, sarcastic, and power-hungry demeanour. See this image link from the wiki page on Ubu Roi:

The spiral image on the front of the Jarry woodcut figure of Ubu seems to be picked up in the spiral on the crank the Oogie Boogie turns to engage the torture mechanism.

This is all a little too coincidental to me. Someone ask Tim!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ronot (talkcontribs) 04:18, 15 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
