Inclusion criteria
[edit]Note that this article includes artists from Brooklyn and those that have resided in Brooklyn at some point in time. The lead of the article clarifies this, and is presently written as "This is a partial list of artists who have resided in or originated from Brooklyn, the most populous borough of New York City." North America1000 06:04, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
- Then the criteria conflicts with the name of the article. The name is either a "list of artists from Brooklyn" or it's a list of artists "who have resided in Brooklyn at some point in time". You can't have it both ways. Vrac (talk) 11:10, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
- The article's title has been changed to List of artists who have resided in Brooklyn. North America1000 11:21, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
- That's nonstandard, and I wouldn't change it just to placate one lone heckler to stop his edit warring. We've never hairsplit with these lists, and as in the category system "from" is a preposition broad enough to cover all the relationships ("associated with" is arguably better, but never had support). The alternative would be silly fragmenting into List of artists who were born in Brooklyn, List of artists who have worked in Brooklyn, and List of artists who have resided in Brooklyn. postdlf (talk) 13:24, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
- You opened Pandora's Box, now don't complain... Kraxler (talk) 13:37, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
- I'm following the Wikipedia policies WP:UNSOURCED, WP:BURDEN, and WP:V, not edit warring. Perhaps it is you who is edit warring? You are entitled to your personal interpretation of the word "from", but Wikipedia is supposed to be based on reliable sources and they say these people I removed are from somewhere else, not Brooklyn. Vrac (talk) 13:41, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
- You removed someone who was born in Queens and relocated to Brooklyn to actually work there as an artist, and someone who began her art career in Brooklyn and then relocated to California. So in the one case you removed someone because they weren't originally from Brooklyn but moved there later, and in the other you removed someone who was previously from Brooklyn but then moved elsewhere. If you want to show us you have a good faith interest in improving this content, don't just blank content: add sourced entries, and discuss the ones you think are incorrect by also addressing the sources others present, not just your own cherrypicked ones. postdlf (talk) 16:31, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
- I don't know how many times I have to say it but here we go again: if you find a reliable source that says the individual is from Brooklyn it's verified that they are from Brooklyn. Otherwise it's your original research. Of course this is moot at the moment because the article is now "have resided in". Vrac (talk) 17:55, 13 July 2015 (UTC)

Propose to move it back to list of artists from Brooklyn, as per standard naming and the corresponding category Category:Artists from Brooklyn. There is no intent for the inclusion criteria to be changed by this. postdlf (talk) 20:25, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
- I second moving it back. The inclusion criteria should follow common sense and the sources. Kraxler (talk) 22:35, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
