@Dmadeo I'm not an administrator, so it has to stay there, by policy, until an administrator comes and deletes the revisions.

Help needed with LDEO article

As you can see above, much of the article was removed for copyvio. I added some pictures I took myself years ago, but the article needs a lot of help if you have time. dm (talk) 17:24, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Dmadeo I've added nine kilobytes to the article. That should leave 3-6k remaining to get back to the original article size, which shouldn't be too hard for the next contributor. I've also upgraded this article back to Start-class.⸺RandomStaplers 00:16, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

What makes the papers listed in the "Notable Papers" section "notable" rather than merely random examples? The source reference citations seem to be links to these papers themselves - this does not show notability, it merely shows they exist. Wikipedia does not need citations to show that something exists, Wikipedia needs citations to show that what the Wikipedia article text claims (notability) is supported by reliable secondary sources. The citations should be publications such as histories of the particular scientific fields that have assessed these papers to be notable. Otherwise, the papers are merely examples of the many publications of the observatory and I think "notable" should instead be replaced by "example". GeoWriter (talk) 18:43, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The original diff cited them in the same way as that section is now, and had absolutely no refs for the other sections, which I have to assume were copied from various LDEO homepages, given that at least one was confirmed to be copied that way.⸺RandomStaplers 02:44, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

RandomStaplers, I propose that the "Notable Papers" section should be removed by moving its content to a new "Other" subsection of the "Research" section and by changing the sentence "Some notable papers from the LDEO include analysis of:" to "Other examples of LDEO's research are:". The source reference citations linking the moved examples of LDEO's published research findings could be kept for each example because they would be harmless and they would no longer be trying to support a claim of notability.
