Rename the article to Lalu Prasad

[edit]

His real name is Lalu Prasad. I do not understand why "Yadav" is added here. He uses Yadav during elections to get Yadav votes. Here is his party's official website where is full name "Lalu Prasad" is listed: [1]-- 70.76.85.36 (talk) 13:52, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am requesting a move. Please don't redirect it. It will be moved shortly after consensus. Faizan 13:56, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for considering the suggestion, Faizan. This is a genuine issue and it can be verified from parliamentary and other records. :)--70.76.85.36 (talk) 13:59, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Here is the record from the Parliament of India: [2] Neither his father, nor his mother have the lastname "Yadav". This is a fact that is never publicized but should be made known to people.--70.76.85.36 (talk) 14:02, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I will expand my request of move as per these refs. Thanks. Faizan 14:04, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Information regarding Jokes on Lalu Prasad

[edit]

I propose to introduce one line information about "Lalu Prasad Jokes", as his act, life, gesture and style of functioning has inspired literally thousands of jokes in India. This may be included in "negative image" section. I request other editors to give their opinion.Rayabhari (talk) 09:38, 4 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you can if there are enough credible sources about it. The kind of website you had used earlier is not reliable source. Plenty of politicians have jokes on them. But If any newspaper or a reliable magazine do comment that jokes are inspired from Lalu, then yes , we can add it. On the other hand, his witty nature is well discussed in media and that, if not added so far can easily be included in the article.--Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 10:46, 4 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Follow wikipedia guidelines on convicted live person, retain in the lead

[edit]

He is national politician, there are guidelines on live person's biographies. a person convicted by court of law by following the due process, has to go in to the article. And, he has been convicted twice. This important aspect must be right there in first line as is the usual case "Lalu is a convicted politician". I am not pro or anti Lalu. I have no agenda to push but I will resist the attempt by his followers to dilute this such as this editor removed the valid edit here to dilute this. Let this pass for once, but next time punish for vandalism. 202.156.182.84 (talk) 03:37, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Clean up: Adding Due Balance while condensing to encyclopedic

[edit]
  • Clean up: I am attempting multiple iterations to clean up this article that has organically grown with time with goodfaith content scattered all over. Now, it needs condensing (without losing the essence of the cited sources, without adding POV or diluting things to push pro-Lalu or anti-Lalu agenda).
  • Please add this article to your watch list: I request the experienced editors to added this article to their "watch list". Avert any potential vandalism or edit warring by Lalu-lovers and Lalu-haters. But be kind to them, do not slap them with warnings, guide them with patience and give them lots of rope with kindness, leave a nice mentoring note as to point out wrong behavior and show the right way in an we-are-equal non-patronizing manner.
  • Include only these facts:
    • (a) undisputed facts such as his political career and election-based appointments,
    • (b) proven in the court cases,
    • (c) charged by the national investigating agencies.
  • Do not include pro or anti Lalu content based on the "opinion" of well-known people reported in the reliable newspapers as these are mere POV and not the facts proven in the court of law by following the "due and transparent judicial process". That means some of the content that does not meet this standard will be cut down, but this keeps edit warring to minimum. That way we do not need to appease Lalu-lovers or Lalu-haters, we appease "wikipedia guidelines" with high standards applied for "Fact Checking".
  • Iterative-collaborative improvements: Let me go through few more iterations over next couple of days and then you are welcome to review and enhance my edits 9to avoid we all editing it simultaneously resulting in edit conflict and loss of content. Instead of reverts, let us try improve each other's content by revising it.
  • PS (No Conflict of Interest statement from me): I do not hate Lalu and I find him endearingly entertaining. If he is clean let him go free. If he and his family has corruptly scammed as proven by the court then add it here in unbiased but accurate manner with the due balance.
    Thanks.
    202.156.182.84 (talk) 06:30, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with fellow-editor's objection/revert that "he was corrupt" must be taken out. Just lave that in that he has been convicted twice and let the people draw conclusions. I have done a lot of clean up, please check, remove any bias, welcome to further clena up language, make sure no dilution of conviction of facts and retain the unbiased due balance. Thanks. 202.156.182.84 (talk) 08:59, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's WP:undue to put the information about his convictions in the first sentence. It's covered in the article and in the lede, but it does not need to be in the first sentence. Meters (talk) 17:17, 10 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
We can not bury a very significant and excessively and reliably reported fact at the bottom of the lede. First, it is extremely lame to dilute the significant facts. Doing so will violate the DUE BALANCE. A "serial" "career criminal" must be mentioned in the lede itself. It is rather WP:UNDUE to dilute the facts by not mentioning in the first sentence. How many more times he has to be convicted as a "criminal" before it becomes significant enough to be in the first statement? Lets say if we compromise, first conviction at the bottom of the lede, second conviction graduates him to the middle of the lede, 3rd conviction goes to the first sentence, subsequent conviction through the roof. This guy never stopped scamming, so convictions did not stop either. Given the tsunami of convictions, he deserves a special rule, which is put the conviction in the article namespace. It being recorded in the first sentence is well deserved and fair enough.
Second, it is mentioned in the first sentence, lede and repeatedly in the article that he is a politician. How come its okay to have him repeatedly as politician everywhere and not as criminal? Can not have such "convenient" double standards.
Third, since it is mentioned in the first sentence as a politician and his "serial crimes" and convictions are directly in relation to his "serial political misdeeds". His crimes go hand-in-hand with his politics. he committed those serial crimes as a politician. His criminal conviction goes in the first sentence with him being a "serial convict and politician" as both are inseparably linked.
Fourth, look at it from the reverse direction. It is not as if these are some unrelated crimes. For example, Salman Khan running over the street people has nothing to do with Salman's acting and movies skills, it is to do with his drunken driving.
Fifth, Lalu was disqualified as politician from parliament. he is not just "politician", he is "disqualified politician", first few words in lede says he is "politician" then it should be amended to diswualified politician", and he was disqualified for being "convicted" "criminal" so it is important to qualify in first sentence as to what kind of politician he was, "a multi-convicted serial-criminal disqualified-politician". Encyclopedic wikipedia must get to the facts fast, direct and quick without bias to push anti-view or without DILUTING. As per the courts, Lalu's crimes have everything to do with his position of power as an elected politician who defrauded his poor people and the nation (not my words, this is what multiple courts orders are repeatedly punishing him for). Can't kill/dilute the "immensely-checked massive-facts" to cater for the POV of blinded supporters of the corrupt politicians. Sanity, rationality, due weight, balance, commonsense and no bias.
Finally, I repeat I have no COI (conflict of interest), not related to his pro or anti parties, not related to his state, caste or opponent caste, etc. I have great respect for the Bihar, Biharis, Yadavas, their glorious past, their hardworking past and present contributions. I beg you, please do not be blinded by the casteist loyalties. Nation first, above caste. Above all, fair wikiguidelines first, which I have already justified as above. I am sorry for the pain of supporters about what is happening to our entertaining Laluwa. Please let us accept the facts. Let the fight of preserving his "false image" go. Let us not fight the wrong battles for the corrupt politicians. Right battle to fight is that we should demand all the politicians of all parties to give us the clean world. Please do it for Bharat mata and your conscience. I am not editing to "win" edit war "my way". One article on wikipedia can be allowed to define or impact our "peace of mind". I am just begging you to change the mindset to defend the "corruption". Bura laga, maaf kar dena, itna gyan jhadne ke liye maafi. I am not smarter or wiser. I am a munhfutt bewaqoof. I hope my words reach your soft loving heart. Thanks.

Update Introduction

[edit]

The criminal conviction history of Lalu Prasad Yadav has been sufficiently enumerated in the later part of the article. Considering these facts are widely known and his present state of serving a jail term, I plan to add a line to his intro, mentioning this:-

"Prasad has had multiple criminal convictions and is currently serving a jail term." [1]

This always existed on the article until it was recently removed by Heba Aisha[9] with a dodgy edit summary. Per WP:LEAD it is necessary to provide a summary about him serving jail sentence at this moment.

Apart from this, the occupation and career of his wife are not needed in his introduction. I plan to remove it. Santosh L (talk) 16:50, 3 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wife's Rule

[edit]

@Heba Aisha This line "From 1997 to 2005 his wife Rabri Devi ruled as the Chief Minister of the state." does not reflect the fact Prasad was the proxy ruler. Please rewrite the sentence to reflect that with citations. Otherwise, the line is irrelevant to the context. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Santoshsatvik (talkcontribs) 16:31, 8 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
