Rewrite
[edit]Rewrote article removing several subjective and unencyclopedic comments, including
- "The joyous forward momentum and the melodious ideas found in this uplifting score have endeared it to choral societies and audiences alike."
- "is the finest of all his Missae brevis'"
- "That said, Mozart does write in quite daringly unrelated keys, which would have been quite a shock to 18th century audiences"
- "There are many examples of truly inspired use of soloists as a quartet"
These have been removed and I contacted the author on his/her talk page to discuss some of the editorial issues, including neutral point of view. -- MarkBuckles 06:24, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
15 (16)
[edit]Does anyone want to explain the 15 and the 16? Does it have anything to do with the authorship of K. 140? James470 (talk) 04:49, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
- There's a similar discussion at Talk:List_of_masses_by_Wolfgang_Amadeus_Mozart. We're not entirely sure. There seems to be a missing "Mass No. 8" in some lists that is "corrected" in others. Mass 16 appears to be much more common in google searches for coronation than Mass 15, so we're keeping the gap in the list, but I haven't heard a good explanation yet and NMA avoids the issue by using only K-numbers (not a bad idea).
- For these numbering discrepancies, its usually caused by a spurious piece in there (e.g. Symphony No. 37) that used to be thought authentic or extra piece (e.g. Sonata K533/494) which was added after the ordinal numbers took hold. The serenade list has a couple of gaps as well which have been only partially explained to me (No. 8 is a notturno, but No. 2 is still a mystery). Anyhow, you've been reading up a lot on the masses. Let us know if you find anything out. Cheers. DavidRF (talk) 06:18, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
- Oh. I hadn't even noticed the missing No. 8. James470 (talk) 03:56, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
- If it weren't for all the masses in C major, it would be better to just get rid of all this numbering crap. Incarnatus (talk) 20:01, 25 September 2009 (UTC)

Correction
[edit]"Almost military" rhythm? What nonsense. How about "engaging rhythm"? Goblinshark17 (talk) 01:11, 2 August 2014 (UTC)
Optional horns
[edit]I think the horn parts are considered to be optional, but I cannot find a reliable source. The horn parts are from an addendum to Mozart's autograph score, which you can download through this site where they are described as "Mozart's separate Horn particella". I think the horns double the choral parts, so omitting them would not affect the harmony
Does anyone have a good source for this, such as a full score from a mainstream publisher? Verbcatcher (talk) 16:44, 13 June 2018 (UTC)
- The preface to the current Novello vocal score mentions this and says "so that perhaps they can be considered optional extras". I will add this. Verbcatcher (talk) 16:49, 13 June 2018 (UTC)
