Wrong map

[edit]

It's map false. Because it conflicts with this map.--Samral (talk) 23:14, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No they don't conflict. The first map shows Bagratid Armenia. The second shows Armenia under Seljuk rule. Bagratid Armenia existed before the Seljuks arrived in Armenia. Kentronhayastan (talk) 04:01, 15 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Coat of arms

[edit]

Hello, I think that it is better to put out a digitalised version of Bagratid Arms in wiki, since, from my own experience, it is generally encouraged for the articles to not use irl photos for the emblems / coat of arms of states and etc.

Athoremmes (talk) 16:33, 22 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A few obvious problems. How was the color chosen? What's with the tail? The frame around the lion/leopard doesn't seem to be true to the proportions of the original. --Երևանցի talk 20:09, 23 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've chosen a color out of contrast since the emblem was originally carved out of the rock. There are quite a lot of emblems for which the colour is undetermined, but the shape is. I think that it can be indicated in the description, though it is quite self-evident from the source I've used, I suppose.
I've used the lion from the supposed flag, but I am willing to adjust it if consensus will be reached Athoremmes (talk) 01:44, 24 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would argue that we should probably use (a shade of) brown based on the tuff stone, not just ubiquitous in Ani, but also the building material of the city walls and the bas relief that the emblem appears on. The color can be derived from these images.
If my two other concerns are addressed (tail and frame proportions), I'm ok with replacing the photo with a digital version, but I'd like to hear other opinions as well.
Btw, there is another photo (File:Orbeli Ani lion.png) of the emblem that can be useful for reproducing the accurate proportions of the frame. --Երևանցի talk 11:39, 24 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
