I think we should rename this article "Kildare Town" and have a disambiguation page linking to it. Several links which are supposed to connect to County Kildare lead here instead. -- Dmitry

(Indent intended here) I made the mistake myself - I was looking for County Kildare and went here instead.

With regards to the town/county difference, do you think the "places of interest" should be moved to the county article? Ptanham 10:01, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Places that are actually in Kildare town (Japanese Garden etc) should stay here. I've moved the K Club to the County Kildare article. Joe Byrne -- Talk -- Contribs - :ga: - :fr: - - 12:02, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Move Kildare to Kildare Town

[edit]

I propose setting up Kildare as a disambiguation page, Kildare Town as the new location for this page and County Kildare as the location for the article currently there. I'm going to be bold and do it unless there is dispute. It's a simple issue of clarity. Joe Byrne -- Talk -- Contribs - :ga: - :fr: - - 12:10, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unless Kildare is actually known as "Kildare Town", it would be more correct to title it "Kildare (town)". Sorry to be picky. Folks at 137 23:05, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Upon reflection "Kildare Town" is a bit irregular....should it not be moved to "Kildare", and the county "County Kildare"? That is the system applied to every other county, see Wexford or Longford or Kilkenny for example.(Sarah777 13:27, 19 August 2007 (UTC))[reply]
Actually looking at the disambiguation page for "Kildare" - not a good idea. Should Waterford go to a dab page to be separated from Waterford Glass? People who type in Kildare will mostly mean the town or county; the logic of the Kildare dab is that every town should be referred to a dab if it has a county named after it or a product or person! Longford could mean Lord Longford or Longford Town F.C.! Only uses other than the primary town should be sent to a dab page. (Sarah777 13:38, 19 August 2007 (UTC))[reply]
This move from Kildare to Kildare Town and making Kildare the disambiguation page seems like a really stupid move. I have never heard anyone refer to Kildare as Kildare Town and even the article does not use the page title in the text as is suggested in the guidelines. The current content of Kildare should be moved into the, already existing, disambiguation page called Kildare (disambiguation) and Kildare Town moved back to Kildare with a disambiguation link at the top of the article. If no one objects I will move it around in the next day or so. ww2censor 01:17, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In preparation for a move back I have expanded the current disambiguation page Kildare (disambiguation) but there are quite a few more that could be added. ww2censor 01:52, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Page move fixes

[edit]

Per request on my talk page;

It looks like Kildare was moved to Kildare Town without any discussion/consensus whatsoever. Note that for Irish articles, town naming doesn't normally proceed in this manner, and that a previously overlooked page, Kildare (disambiguation) already existed. We ended up in a situation where there are two dab pages.

I have moved the town page back to Kildare. Note that Special:Whatlinkshere/Kildare_Town needs to be cross-checked and fixed, and Special:Whatlinkshere/Kildare probably also needs sifting.

Note towns like Waterford, Kilkenny, etc. WP:NC:CITY and WP:IMOS are the definitive style documents on this issue. If anything, it should read, "Ballywhatsit, County Whatever" but definitely not "Ballywhatsit Town" (note double-sin of having the capitalised "T") - Alison 19:36, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've added the link to the disambiguation page back to this page. Ewlyahoocom 20:04, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
