Check in Russian language wiki

[edit]

Could someone who reads Russian look for links for this author in the Russian language Wiki? Also the Pulkovskaya Observatory. I'm not sure if it is standard practice to link between languages in Wikipedia, but I found very little source material on either in English.

Birdbrainscan 03:08, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He is not very popular in Russian-language sources either. Only about 65 Google hits. As to the Pulkovskaya Observatory, look at Pulkovo Observatory. Colchicum 21:34, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Colchicum! That was quick. It's so amazing working on Wikipedia and having people just turn up with answers the same day. Birdbrainscan 04:15, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Credentials

[edit]

I've corrected his credentials - he might be the head of the space research laboratory - but the webpage of the observatory doesn't support this. It is not unusual to "boost" credentials in news-articles in the former east-block (but this might be my personal bias - so feel free to argue). But hopefully someone can find a good source for it. Nb. i could not find a reference on the Russian Academy of Sciences that lists him as a member. --Kim D. Petersen 01:15, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Changing some stuff

[edit]

The guy is a physicist. He has a doctorate in physics, he has publications, he does research in a russian physics laboratory. Seems like some people think it's worth attacking the person because they disagree with his opinions. The fact that he's a global warming skeptic automatically disqualifies him from being a scientist right ? Geez. --Helixdq (talk) 10:31, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If by scientist we mean someone with a degree in science from an accredited university them Abdusamatov is definitely a scientist. If by mainstream we mean the majority of such persons, then he is it. To verify search "petition project" and discover that 31,486 Americans with science degrees do not believe that human-enhanced CO2 causes the planet to warm. The project petition is being translated into additional languages so that the bulk of humanity's scientists can also have a say. In addition the US Senate Minority report released a year ago contains declarative statements by some 700 of those scientists, with links and credentials, offering myriad reasons why the... 15? 150? 1500? scientists among the UN bureaucrats making CO2 climate claims are wrong. I will therefore conduct an experiment. I am about to remove the word "mainstream" from the gratuitous insult included in the article, and replace it with "political," which precisely describes the IPCC. I predict that intellectuals of the looter persuasion with no verifiable science degree will swarm out of the woodwork, reverse the change to restore the insult, and aver that the petition project signers do not exist (they are all listed by state), and say little or nothing about the senate report (posted in the science section of my own website, jhenryphillips.com, with weblinks to the scientists and their arguments). I also predict that the staff will let the censorship stand. Kindly observe the result of this experiment and remember it the next time someone asks you for a donation or a weblink. translator (talk) 18:24, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The "petition project" is an infamous fraud. The fact that you cite so blindly speaks poorly of you. 207.98.198.84 (talk) 20:59, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There, it is done. I also added search instructions to the existing blanked article titled "list of scientists..." and predict that it too will again be blanked, even though Dr. Robinson freely circulates the list. To verify the experiment, try removing the unsupported insinuation that unidentifed real scientists doubt Abdusmatov's conclusions. translator (talk) 18:46, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

sunspots and global cooling meme

[edit]

Did Khabibullo Abdusamatov initiate the (bogus) "Sunspot Shortage to Cause Ice Age Real Soon Now" meme? Smptq (talk) 20:57, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can someone find a counter argument?

[edit]

This: "Heated greenhouse gases, which become lighter as a result of expansion, ascend to the atmosphere only to give the absorbed heat away" has made my day. I can't remember a more ludicrous statement. Can someone find a source to demonstrate that this is false? Smartse (talk) 14:44, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I found a counter argument to the whole idea of comparing Earth's atmosphere to a greenhouse.

Source of "ice-age"

[edit]

This is the source... Not so good one, isn't it?. --DracoRoboter (talk) 18:34, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is his name spelled wrong?

[edit]

The article name has one "s" in has last name, but two "ss" names are sprinkled throughout the text.--Froglich (talk) 04:42, 11 August 2013 (UTC) Yes, it appears his surname is misspelled according to this which includes his email address, which has two "ss". I'll move the article to the correct title. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:49, 1 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Prophecy

[edit]

He predicted the onset of a new "mini-iceage" since 2006 - three of the biggest 5 newspapers in Romania can confirm that: Jurnalul Naţional, 3 martie 2006 România liberă, 9 februarie 2006 Adevărul, 23 iulie 2007 Ark25  (talk) 01:11, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

BLP noticeboard

Section = 109 BLP articles labelled "Climate Change Deniers" all at once. This article was placed in a "climate change deniers" category. After discussion on WP:BLPN and WP:CFD the category was deleted. Peter Gulutzan (talk) 15:52, 20 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
